2 teachers get 3 months in Prison

I just been looking at ajarn and they all seem to think it is a bit harsh, now these 2 guys got faked up degrees made up and presented them to get work permits, so basically their work permits are invalid as they used faked up degrees, so these guys have committed fraud to get work permits and the teachers are saying it is wrong, I mean I got nothing against fraud if your gonna make a bit of dosh out of it and are willing to accept what may happen when or if you get caught, I personally love insurance companies, I mean lets look at this logically, they went out and bought fake degrees, they used these fake degerees to get a job and work permit, fok me they got off lightly I reckon, they used fake documents to get a work permit for Gods Sake, you try buying a pirated copy of some thai Movie here, you wont find them cos the consequences are too high, stoopid foking cnuts is the nicest thing I can think of saying, also if you mention on ajarn about getting a fake degree you will get a pm from someone that can arrange it for you, got to admit I aint checked out who that is yet, but I don't think I will be suprised.

I agree they got off easy.

"don't do the crime if can't do the time"

Ripping off insurance isn't really criminal BTW. They have it coming.
Though I'm less inclined to here as insurance rates are still realistic

They took the chance. Got caught. That's the way it goes.

I hope they don't get it up the bum while doing their time.

I'll jump in on the other side. I won't say that forging documents is right, but I don't think that the punishment fits the crime.

A while back it came out that the CEO of Radioshack (a large chain of stores in the US) had lied about his academic credentials. Did he go to jail? No. He lost his job and he's never going get another one with comparable pay or status. Those two teachers should have been treated as he was. They should have lost their jobs, their visas and been booted out of the country. Faking credentials to get a job shouldn't be an offense that lands you in jail unless someone can prove that they did real harm or had malicious intent.

Yeah, I've come across some goof-balls.

You can tell they are lying just by the things they say and do.

I wonder if the number of departing farang teachers is large enough to have an appreciable effect on the availability of teachers in some schools for the upcoming school year. Seems like the tightening of required qualifications may significantly reduce the size of the teacher pool.

I think if the schools would pay a decent wage then they could more readily attract quality people who are willing to show authentic credentials. Some are dedicated and will work here for less, but I think many others will go elsewhere where the pay is higher.

That's the International schools DD, the big posh ones and mainly in Bangkok.
The Governement schools pay closer to 35,000.

Prison would seem a little harsh for such a thing. I suspect that it's a warning to others. In many things the first person to be 'caught' is set up as an 'example' - It was ever thus - They used to place the decapitated rotting heads of criminals atop poles on London Bridge....This was last November, they've stopped it now.

A proper teacher should be able to get a proper job, Look I am sorry but I wouldn't goto a dentist or a doctor that had only had 4 weeks training, why should i accept my son being taught by someone with 4 weeks training, I used to know a black guy of all things who got a proper job here at a proper school here that paid proper money, foking clever articulate guy though, the 2 guys mentioned above willingly commited fraud to get jobs that they wernt qualified for, you take your chances and pay the fines or do the time if you do that sort of stuff willingly, if you don't want to goto prison then it really aint a good idea to present the Labour Dept with fraudulant degrees, they choose to do so, they got off lightly with 3 months in prison, fraud is a real serious crime here, ie time wise you get to spend in prison, you have a fight and its a 1,000baht fine and the hospital fees for the other guy.

Probably william will know more about fraud offenses and how serious it is considered here in Thailand.

^^Good point, there is a difference between saying that you have delivered newspapers before in order to get a Saturday job, and in providing false paperwork in order to obtain an official 'license' to work and live in a foreign country.

Proper teachers 150 k baht per month, fake ones earn about 7 times the national average wage per month for thailand, so they are getting paid plenty.

How does that compare with China, Korea and Japan? Or other possible places to teach in SEA?

Would the UK pay French teachers 7 times the national average wage for them to teach in the UK for students to learn French? Of course not.

Can you buy pirated Thai dvds here? not that I have seen, yet you can buy any farang pirated dvd here, the laws are not enforced equally, and also Thailand is really strict on drugs and fraud, they even kill people if they get convicted for drugs, so if your gonna become a drug dealer the sensible thing would be to do it in a country that is a bit more lenient, ie holland, insurance fraud and other frauds are also treated more leniently in the west, you wanna live in thailand you got to go by the thai laws, aint no saying you didn't know the sentence would be so much cos you committed fraud.

I felt kind of bad for those two last month who got 90 days. Any teachers who is still here with false teeth even, and doesn't know what the new rules are or lives with the illusion everyone will be caught but him is an idiot. I can't help but believe half the men who come here have never been shagged. And when they are shagged they lose all control, turn criminal, start nicking farang drunks who stagger home, whatever it takes to buy that new buffalo and keep their pistol well oiled.
