btw Michael Johnson is a class act, I've heard a lot of his interviews over the years, he's done a lot of BBC work.

His comments about Bolt during these Olympics are more testament to the greatness of Michael Johnson.

I always admire people who take enjoyment from seeing their records broken.

    Unlike Fred Trueman for example.

Mark Spitz was very gracious toward Michael Phelps too. You're right. I tend to think more of great champions that can be gracious.

Unlike Barry Bonds (baseball) who is an unmitigated asshole.

Bolt could have gone much faster. He was just cruising at the end.

Bolt must feel even just a little bit miffed that his achievements - which would in the normal course of events be the focal point of the whole Olympics - are somewhat overshadowed by Phelps, surely?

    Well ... Bolt won two.

That's 25 percent of Phelps' take.

^Yeah, but I don't just mean solely on the medal haul though (and by the way, I presume Bolt's going to be in the 4x100m relay too? Another chance there maybe).

More like the winner of the 100m is usually the 'star' of the particular Olympics they competed in.

He will be called the fastest man on earth until those times are surpased.
That is a title to hold.
Phelps may hold 8 golds but doesn't have the title.

His is the performance I'll remember most.

I don't think he's going to be even remotely miffed by what went on in the pool Ant.

^^Ummm, might want to check the facts.
I think 6 world records along with his precious metal.

But the men's 100 meters is arguably the premiere event of the Olympics. And since the winner was not American, the TD crowd can revel in his victory.

^ yes but he isn't the fastest man on Earth. That is some title.
Phelps is not the fastest swimmer.

Lets see. Bolt could run the 100M backwards. Run with both his arms doing a circular motion as well as normal etc!

Johnson had a weird style, but has shown his class on the BBC.

Quite funny saying Bolt would have to improve his running off the bend during the semis if he was serious about 200 m running.

Next to the Open water ten kilometre swim marathon, or the BMX sprint relay team event, the highlight of the Games so far.

Men's basketball is all that's left. Everything else is twaddle.

How does BMX bicycle rate an Olympic event?

I've missed the Wales national team. They've been remarkably quiet.

we have 3 golds and several silvers.

Much better return than the scots and not at all bad for a population of 3 million.

Aahh yes, Ben Johnson. I still remember that race and how all of Canada watched it and erupted in joy when he won. The next day a Toronto paper had the headline: "Jamaican stripped of his gold medal".

I think there's room for two.

Phelps and Bolt, two remarkable men at the top of their game...or are they?...more to come?

Phelps in London would make him extra remarkable, Bolt will be there for sure.

Incidently, how did that remarkable (US) American lady do? the swimmer coming back at the age of 42? I cannot remember her name but saw her on TV. Awesome feat.

Justice was served when they stripped that drug cheat of his gold and gave it to...err...another drug cheat.
