British teenager Lando Norris is to replace Stoffel Vandoorne at McLaren after the Belgian driver announced he is to leave at the end of the season.

Norris, 18, has been the team's reserve driver and took part in first practice sessions in Spain and Hungary in 2018.

He will partner Renault's Carlos Sainz, who will replace Vandoorne's retiring team-mate Fernando Alonso.

"This is a special moment, one I could only hope would become reality," said Norris.

"To be announced as a race driver for McLaren is a dream come true."

    Vettel won't be pleased....

Former world champion Kimi Raikkonen will leave Ferrari at the end of this season and rejoin Sauber.
The 38-year-old Finn will be replaced at Ferrari by 20-year-old Monaco-born Sauber driver Charles Leclerc, who will partner Sebastian Vettel in 2019.

Mercedes were coming into this race looking at damage limitation, as their longer car is less suited to the twisty street circuit in Singapore. The track certainly suits the Red Bulls who are obviously a threat here, reliability problems notwithstanding.

Kimi edged FP2 from Hamilton, with the Red Bulls and Bottas in two. Vettel was well off the pace after carelessly planting his car into the wall.

FP3 is in 3 hours or so, so we'll get a better look at who is doing what.

I fancy a huge pile up at turn 1.

Esteban Ocon to do a Foinavon, overtaking Lance Strol on the final lap, with Stroll running out of fuels 500m from the finish

Right, It's Ferraris, Red Bulls and Mercs all in with a shout as we go into Q3.

What a fucking lap from Hamilton and nearly as good from Mad Max.

The Ferraris and Bottas have got some real work to do, with realistically only one flying lap left.

Never was a Hamilton fan but must admit that lap was stunning. He and his team are head and shoulders above the rest.

Yep! Great lap from Hamilton especially after struggling in early practice.

I can recall lesser drivers defending a lead there, in worse cars too. Not much chance if Hamilton gets his nose in front and his team get the strategy right.

I seriously hope there is no carnage at turn 1. But like Harry says, the potential is there.

There is always at least one safety car in Singapore, so overcuts/undercuts can be a bit of a lottery.

High potential with the Dutchman on the front row.

Five minutes to start, have a great stream and anticipating a war the minute the flag drops. Remember last year's start?

Easy win for Hamilton thanks to that superb lap yesterday. Good to see mad max behave himself and get second. Vettel was killed off by bsnub's wishful thinking...

    Grosjean is such an arse...

"Whiting: Worst ignoring of blue flags I've seen
Race Director Charlie Whiting took the unusual step of entering the podium warm-down room to personally apologise to Hamilton and Verstappen for the backmarkers' interference.

Grosjean's time penalty was added on to his race result, demoting the Haas driver to 15th.

And Whiting made his displeasure with Grosjean plain in his own post-race briefing:

"I think Romain forget the golden rule of blue flags and that's if, you are in a battle, you've got to forget about your own battle and move over," said Whiting.

"I've drilled that into them many, many times and he completely forgot about it. The light panels were flashing with his race number on and Lewis was much, much faster.

"It was one of the worst cases of ignoring blue flags that I've seen for a long time."

Just for perspective, Snubby's F1 experience (at least he thinks it is) consists of serving burgers at a Goodwood race meet.

He also, remarkably stupidly, thinks Haas are a good team.

And he obviously thinks that wanker Grosjean is a good driver.

Snubby, open a Nascar thread, maybe you'd be good at talking about shit drivers going round in circles.

Mercedes had the third best car at Singapore and Hamilton made up the difference. To better his previous lap by a whopping 1.3s was a shock to everyone and it takes a lot more than a shit driver with hi-tech to do that. Just my opinion but it's a little more informed and less troll-like than yours.

How dare you accuse snubby of being a troll.

He is genuinely as thick as shit.

Lewis and Bottas more than half a second faster than Ferrari. Qualifying in a couple of hours.

Much amusement as the hapless Vettel pulled out of the pits and drove all the way down only to find the pit lane exit was closed.

So now they have to push the car all the way back up the pits.

And Kimi was about to pull out as well.

WTF are that Ferrari team doing? They're a fucking shambles.

Bottas set the pace and Lewis made a mistake on his last lap, but it's still a Mercedes front row and a Ferrari second row.

No sign of the Red Bulls as they take engine changes.

    1. Bottas
    2. Hamilton
    3. Vettel
    4. Kimi
