^ if you could spell football, you may find they do
I'm in, the thread is stickied and we all know English isn't an Aussie strong point!
I'll be in when I get round to it - are there any rule changes or differences from last year??
Same.
Let's get the larfs going then because this looks harder than last year.
The aptly named 'Sir Not Appearing at this World Cup' Theo Walcott is a snip at 8.5..
Emile Heskey can lead your forward line for only 7.0, or what about Robbie F, 8.5 and he's yours.
Now Craig once had a lot of promise but at 10.0 would you want Bellamy?
Can Thierry do it again? Spend 14.0 to find out.
A quiet tip might be Darren (not good enough for England) Bent at 9.0 before he gets snapped up by a decent team.
Viduka, Baros and Hasselbaink at 8.0 are all guarranteed to give you a healthy league return of 6-9 goals next season. What do ya reckon? Have a punt on one of them?
Oh, and did I mention you can pop that nice young chap Micheal Owen on your bench for 6 months. It will only set you back 10.0.
Ollie (I've not played for 2 years and I'm 33) Solskjaer seems good value at 7.0 considering Ruud may be on his way, Rooney will prolly be suspended half the season and Saha will be with the doctors for the best bit.
Can Tottenham score some this time round? Keane at 9.0? Defoe at 8.5? or Berbatov at 8.0? Might as well be Willem Defoe at them prices.
"Hang on Pooly" I hear from the bar, "Worrabart that tall cnut for the scousers?"
Good call, oh and mines an old speck, ta!
Well our 'robo-dancing' World cup star is only 9.0 and I got a funny feeling he might bang in a few this year but....who wants that prick in their team, eh?
Pooly's big tip is.............save ya money until the last days before it kicks off, check out the new signings as they're posted in the lists and see if you can snag a potential bargain, and if you're like me, let the fucking computer pick your side coz I'm well crap at this!
I'll be back tomorra with a look at who's going to bring you grief in the midfield!
I got Henry (c) Rooney & Keane.
Expensive, as you will see if you check out my defence.
I think that's the way to go but I ain't got the mineralsOriginally Posted by Marmite the Dog

thanks! I'll need it!Originally Posted by poolcleaner
For an even 100 Mil you can have a squad like this one.
^ I seriously hope that isn't your real squad.
I logged on at work when I saw Torbers post and realised i wouldn't have time to pick a serious squad so I filled it with 5.0 duffers just to get it done.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

I don't think it looks too bad.
The midfield rocks!!
i am in too.
just quickly made a squad. i hope can change it again when i have more time - before premier league starts
You can make as many changes as you want before the season starts without having to pay. So don't worry, tinker away!Originally Posted by slimboyfat

I is in
wonder how much i'll fiddle with it in the close season
might even change my team too
My team is already wonderful, so I shall leave it alone, barring transfers and serious injuries.
You lot haven't got a chance!
Anyway, who let Torbers put a team in. He cheats you know. He reads the rules!
It just occurred to me that I didn't see Ballack in the list (he's on me coke can!)
And considering there will likely be 4 Italian teams who will struggle to keep hold of some quality players after they get relegated, there's almost certainly going to be a few more top liners in the mix over the next 3 or 4 weeks.
top liners are usually too expensive and henry and fat fwank aside dont always come up with the goods
its unearthing the gamst pedersens and bents and not picking the donkeys and new donkeys that brings success in this game IMHO
so who knows a Reading, Sheffield Utd or Watford fan so we can pick a bargain?
Let's explore the offerings in midfield, shall we?
Franky was the second top overall points scorer last season after Thierry with 222 points and his asking price is an affordable 11.0, if you think he's going to do it all again.
Stevie G, at 10.5 will make quite a few teams IMO,
The next trio were the mainstays of my team last season and all finished in the top 5 midfielders, Gamst-pederson, Nolan and Giannakopoulos. At 9.0 and 8.0 they wouldn't be out of the counting.
Ballack looks good at 10.5. Will he have what it takes to succeed in the prem?
Will Joe Cole finally cement himself a starting place in the eleven? 9.5
Essien? 7.5
Duff? He'd be looking for a transfer if he ever wanted to play again wouldn't he? 8.5 seems ridiculous to me.
Makalele. 7.0 and you won't get any goals. Not for me.
SWP at 8.0!! Are you taking the piss? Still he might get a trany or a loan and star for Wigan or Charlton!
Robben is 9.5 and he'd be a walk up in my team if he played every week.
I snapped up Fabregas for 8.0, He'll be in every week and could get the odd assist.
I just looked at the Chalton midfield. top price for any of them is 5.5 Hughes or Rommedahl look best.
Aussie Tim for 7.5. Injuries and the odd suspension will see you trading Timmy if you do pick him. trust me I know!
Boa morte, Malbranque and Bollard, all 8.0 and 7.0 are the only reason Fulham are still in the top flight IMO. But which one?
Alonso or Garcia? 8.5 + 7.5 Will Liverpool be winning a lot of games? Only if these two are playing well and each week. Worth the risk.
Joey Barton? Has loads of potential but not ever going to be a big points scorer for me.
Won't mention any from Man U. Over-priced and not guarranteed a regular start. Scholes is 8.5 though.
Spiderman Parker is a bargain at 6.0 if he can recapture the form he was in prior to his injury last season.
6.5 for O'neill at Portsmouth looks good 128 points last time and will be their star again.
Benayoun and Reo-coker for the Hammers will get every game starts and get amongst the goals and assists 7.5 and 7.0.
Carrick and Lennon both 7.5, both assured of regular starts, both World cuppers for England and both in my squad.
Well that's the midfield wrap.
Using the power of mathematics, you will determine that the average price for each player in your team, is 6.6666.
Using commonsense, will tell you if you fill your team with 6.5's and you will have an average team, very average in fact.
You need to score around 55-60 points every week to be a contender. That's every week too, not once a month, so you need to have a Lampard, a Gerard and a Henry in your team which, for all three, is 35.5 already.
That combo last year pulled in, with Henry as capt, no less than 876 points. A Van der sar at the back is only 6.0 for another 168 points.
The problem is picking regular point scorers, at a good price to put around the big money earners.
Good Luck!
The Italian verdict kind of makes it pointless doing too much for the time being.
Although I don't expect too many migrating to EPL...
Anyone noticed if prices are varying for players already?
I don't think they changed last year until season proper started.
I doubt that prices can change until all the squads are picked and then when the buying and selling starts.Originally Posted by Torbek
