Then the nightmare that was the shuttle will end. Unfortunately it will take some time to have the much better replacement ready. Thinking of that they should have kept it operational for another year.

The shuttle is what you get when politics get involved in technology decisions. A reusable unit it had to be no matter what the cost. The cost was very high in money and lives.
