    Looking for a Labrador puppy

    Can anyone help?

My two Labradors were recently murdered (poisoned) and as much as I just want them back we really need to fill the hole left by them.

Not really interested in any other breed they are just perfect dogs for us (retreiver, not the long hair type)

Need to get as soon asap so It will start to guard at night as we already have 2 cats sniffing and shitting around, a huge rat (which I caught) and this morning I was bummed again not to see my beloved Odie come bounding up the steps and instead saw what could be the ugliest dog ever (some poodle cross) sitting there looking lost. We live on a farm, this thing looked freshly dumped and I know my mrs, as soon as some mongrel comes by she will give it food "It was hungry!" and we will be stuck with it.

Not to mention the theives happy that there is no dogs to bark at night and wake us.

We know why they were murdered, all over a couple of effing chickens (which were wandering around MY yard!).....Won't be making that mistake again (finishing the chain link fence now)

    Any help appriciated.

Fucking hell - only the most sadistic cnuts would murder beautifu labradors. I'd be hatching a plan to get even.

The worst thing is that we are 99% sure it was an neighbouring Uncles son!

We did a little detctive work and it seems he didn't cover his tracks quite as well as he should. Obviously I will be having a little chat when he comes back to town.

I would have bought him all the f**king chickens he would ever want!

They only had to have a quiet word to sort it all out, no need to do that at all, typical monkey mentality. we kept one of the black puppies and being a Lab loved to retrieve but the chickens couldn't handle it and died. She only took them in our yard where the wandered. I knew it was a potential problem and wanted to do something about it but I had no idea they felt like that enough to kill them. The Golden never did anything like that. Now when I go to work and my wife and son are here alone who is going to protect the yard at night? It is an open invitation to any thieves.

Sorry to hear of your loss Bung. As a dog lover and owner myself I know how heart breaking it can be to lose a much loved family member.

However if I am reading this right your dog was killing the neighbours chickens?
Having grown up in a farming area I know that once a dog becomes a chook killer it has to be disposed of because you can never trust it not to kill again. And Thai animal husbandry practices are the same. Thai dogs dont kill chickens or ducks, because if they do, they dont get a second chance.

Although poisoning your dogs is a deplorable and inhumane method of solving the problem, that kind of mindset is most unlikely to change.
Confronting your neighbour will only build resentment, and that could go against your new pup somewhere down the line. Building a a good fence to keep the chooks and dogs in their own separate territories is the only sensible way to go.

Dont let your grief and anger turn this into a neighbourly feud with your dog/s as the focal point, because if it goes that way your new dog is most likely to be one to suffer.

    Good luck with it.

Thanks Panda, you are absolutely right. The black one had a taste for chickens thats for sure and I knew I had to do something about it but obviously let it go too long. But what do you do about it?

As angry as I feel we have no hard proof who did it and we have to live with it.

Just wish whoever it was just said to us "Can you do something about the dog killing my chickens?" Pretty easy isn't it?

Thinking of checking out jatuchuck on Sunday

A friend had a mastiff cross labrador that killed two sheep. They got an electric collar and as soon as the dog looked at the sheep they'd give it a zap. Apparently it worked very quickly. The idea is the dog comes to think that looking at sheep is painful and the whole instictive drive to attack them doesn't kick in.

I'm not keen on the idea of zapping dogs, but sounds like a better option than poisining.

They won't. Thai neighbours are horrible. One of mine came into our house and cut down half a tree without asking - even though I'd said I'd do it myself. All he had to do was ask and I would have helped.

Another neighbour, who is US educated and was always friendly, invited me into is house and his dog attacked me. I've since spend 3k on rabies shots etc. and had nasty hole in my leg. He drives a porsche and has plenty of cash, but now he's just avoiding me.

JJ has a really bad name for all sorts of reasons. There's a good chance dogs sold there aren't really labradors and even if there's a good chance they will die.

I know a Thai guy with a male and female lab. If you're interested PM me.

Whatever you do please don't buy a dog at JJ's
Too many stories going around about sick puppys dying shortly after purchase.
