I've kissed the Blarney stone, so I'll just have to settle for that at the moment.

As this temple is Cambodian shouldn't this be in the Cambodian section of the forum?
My Mrs is from about 25km from the temple. Always a lot of army activity in the skys and on the roads of the area at the moment.
She is khmer ??
Watch out.
Not Khmer but she speaks Suay or Guay dialect of the language when speaking with family, this is a mix of Thai, Khmer and Lao. When I speak to her family I usually speak the Mao dialect, this is a mix of Thai, English and Leo.Originally Posted by Nawty

Yes....I use the chang dialect meself..
Visited Khao Phra Viharn (Wihan, Vihearn, whatever) twice in late '90s. You needed a passport at the time.
The first time we visited there were signs posted warning of landmines. A year later the signs were gone (were the landmines gone too--or did someone figure tourists didn't want to be scared).
The temple/palace/ruins are pretty amazing and the view down into Cambodia is equally impressive.
In addition to the cannon, there was a downed helicopter rusting away off to the side.
With the military presence, the landmines, the vendors selling crap and contraband, and the beautiful old temple beat up by time, weather, and artillery, it's a poetic capsule of Cambodia and much of SE Asia.
Well worth the visit if/when it re-opens.
There is a temple near Khao Phra Viharn, in Sisaket, that has built a couple of buildings completely out of recycled glass bottles and mortar.
They used the larger clear bottles (Coke, Fanta, etc) for the main walls and smaller more colorful bottles (M150, Red Bull/Krating Dang, Carlsberg) for details.
Completely whimsical.
Anyone able to give better directions that "near KPV, in Sisaket?" If pressed, I might be able to get the village name or amphur out of my wife. (Her brother's ex lives there.)
(I'd start a new thread for this, but since I don't know where it is, it would be a weak thread...so I'm tucking it in here.)
