    THAILAND - Bang Saen Trip - 2017

So, we, the inclusive Family are in the Toyota heading South out of Bangkok.

If the Toyota was a grandstand ... it's a sell out ... with a few standing on the bumpers.

Now, before we get this Road Trip underway ... a nice image.

Right to left ... one of my boys, my (future) niece and her squeeze. She is 20ish.

Where are we headed? ... SOUTH (from Bangkok).

^ KT ... is that place on the other side of the road from the beach?

    Assuming that's a 7/11 there, I think I know the area.

    ---

For the working class Thai, Bang Sean is a Mecca.

Maybe it's the first 1/2 decent beach once away from the bright lights of Bangkok ... but, for me ... it's a shite hole.
And that standard is coming from someone (me) who sort of likes/accepts Pattaya.

For a Westerner, there is little to do there.

Thai's typically come for the day, for a night drive (the beach is lit at night) or overnight/week-end.

^ Only 2 deep here ... they really wern't trying.

They will park, up to 3 deep, handbrakes off, you know the style and plonk themselves under a shade umbrella, order food
and usually not budge from the chair.

^ The choices of where to sit under the Umbrella were seemingly endless.

They all look the same and thankfully there is a prominent numbering system to relocate your loved ones
after a trip to the Loo etc.

^ Looking south and then looking north.

Essentially, you have the beach on one side which adjoins the seating, a central dividing walk-way and then the food
vendors/bric-a-brac stalls on the other side of the walkway and then the main road.

^ Endless, unique Shopping experiences to be cherished. (none of that lot are my Mob)

^ Hand crafted souvenirs ... which may or may not have been sourced from greater Bang Sean

^ Local delicacies which must be savoured ... actually we, I mean THEY eat them @ the Farm.

OK ... now for the disclaimer ...

Once you are they and assuming you are not paying for the gig, it's nice to lay back under the umbrella,
Scotch n Soda and a Beer and just let the whole Thainess wash over you.

That's how I survive Thailand, that's why you wan't see me arguing on this Forum because, in reality,
not much is worth getting that upset for.

So, to finish off with, a few vids of the place ...

They did eventually all get it together.

Bang Sean Beach. I've learnt how to do a 360 pan by just twisting.
Horrible Beach, broken glass and litter in the sand.
BTW, beaches, like Bang Sean are for the little kids to paddle around in and adults for selfies.
    Not many swim in them.

Apparently, only 1 YouTube per post ... sorry guys.

I love the ingenuity of those children's play toys.

ME? Slumped in a deck chair, looking up ... that bit was nice.

    Bang Sean Beach at Sunset

Bang Sean:-- don't be surprised when the Thai Family clamber to get there ... don't be disappointed when you arrive.

Anyone got any positive images/antidotes for the place?

Where are the pics of the orange coloured grilled chicken, 6 hour old sandblasted tempura prawns, candy floss in a bag, the 4 year old selling tissue, the lady selling windmills made out of a straw an M150 lid and elastic band?

C'mon man, get your act together!

Went once, a good few years back, the sea was green and the place stank. apparently that happens there now and again, something to do with algae or probably Luigi scrimping on the hotel room.

Positives- It wasnt a long ride back to Bangkok

    Ahhh.... Its plankton

Tourists have been warned not to swim in the sea of Bang Saen due to plankton bloom which has turned the sea water green and smelly.
Mr Narongchai Khunpluem, the mayor of Saensook municipal, said the municipality was awaiting a test result from the marine science institute of Burapha University about the cause of the change of the sea colour and the strong smell and whether this would pose a health threat or not.
He disclosed that this phenomenon was the second within this month.
Plankton bloom was reported to have stretch about ten kilometer long off the Bang Saen beach from Laem Taen to Ang Sila.
The Bang Saen tourism office has warned tourists not to swim in the sea for the time being until the situation has improved.
Business operators, however, complained that their businesses would be hard hit if the situation persists for a longer period. They urged the authorities concerned to quickly resolve the problem.

^^^ Bogan, I let the Lassie deal with all that shite.

I did, however buy some of those tempura prawns because it's one of the few seafoods I like (in this casual dining situation).

I was warned not to ... I should have listened. No sand but 90% dough and a tiny crustacean, still with the friggin' shell on.

The "windmills made out of a straw an M150 lid and elastic band" ... is in the YouTube above

    ---

^^ Ah, yes Dillinger ... I forgot about the beach smell.

Not pungent, but a definite odour.

    ---

    ^ THAT IS GROSS !

Only thing in Bang Saen worth wandering round is that Mall, full of Uni girls during term time. The office for the bus back is round the side.

The drive out of the city is a real shitter, freeways clogged until ya hit the main drag out.

yep - first go to the seafood market and let the women thrash a couple of thousand baht while you wait at the car and quaff ales
then head to the beach and park yourself across from a 7 / 11 with a toilet next to it
grab a couple of cold ales and a bottle of lindermans white and flop back in a deck chair for several hours , only getting up to go for a piss

bonus point s if while wearing no undies you can gross out the old big hair brigade by letting your nutsack hang out in their eyesight

heading down on tuesday for a couple of nights and staying at a new place - normally stay at the heritage in a bungalow across from the beach - but all full - maybe a warning of the crowds

will get some photos of the excitement to spruce up your thread - can only see a few pics in your first post - where are you hosting them ?

as dill says , it is not a long drive to bangkok

Stayed there last month in a 2 bedroom chalet thingy. The place is massive.

You need a motor to drive from reception to you gaff., then back to the pool and in the morning for brekkie.

Think I paid just under the 3k mark for a night. Will have a look on my Agoda...

    --EDIT--

Paid just under 2900 baht for a weekend stay in August with brekkie. It rates itself as a 4 star, but that's bollox. For the price though, it's a Bogon Bargain.

I went there and got delayed at my friends place and missed the last bus back after 7.40. I was determined to get to Bkk and there weren't any vans going back either, (it was the friday before holiday weekend, early july)

Finally found a songtheaw just before 10pm going to Bang Na, crammed full of others heading back late. 70 Baht, and one hell of a dusty fast ride. Arriving at Bang Na bts by 11.20pm. Thank fuck for that.

Sorry about the photos. I had some issues uploading.

Had 10 images uploaded for the OP and then that was it. Even though the system uploaded the images (more then 10)
    they just didn't show.
The new system hasn't had all the bugs out of it yet.

So, I opened a new post, in another thread, uploaded the images there, copied and pasted their image location
and they appeared in this thread ... then friggin' disappeared.

PLUS, you are allowed only 1 YouTube per post ... Grrrrrrrr

Thanks for the community service, do you get time off for good behaviour.
I suppose mass Thai sanook with less pollution seems rational if you live in the sewer that is Bangkok.

Pai Chiang Mai Nan or Laos are also just hours away, Each to their own.
