Crime suppression police and auxiliary officers turned out in force to bust prostitutes and drug dealers on Pattaya’s Beach Road. The dragnet produced the arrests of 50 ladyboys charged with loitering, importuning and generally being a nuisance. Some tested positive for drugs.



While some claimed they were on Beach Road because they could think of nothing else to do, others admitted to being long-time prostitutes with little education.

Reporting on their daring nocturnal activities, Police told journalists that the ladyboy problem was worrying because tourists complained of being ripped off by the cross-dressers.

Some tourists claimed to not know they were men until after enjoying sexual experiences with them.

A number of ladyboys are considered dodgy but often cannot be identified by police because they keep changing their appearance with new wigs or different makeup.

Drugged-out ladyboys were charged; others were fined 100 baht and returned to Beach Road.
