Saraburi - Over 30 students ran for cover when a training tank accidentally fired into their school compound Friday.

The students were having lunch at the canteen of Wat Thung Salika School at 11:30 am when they heard an explosion so they ran for cover.

It was late found that the explosion caused by a shell fired from a tank for training from the training ground of a cavalry unit from the other side of the mountain.

Captain Prakorb Imjai, who is in charge of the training, said the shell was not dangerous because it had no shrapnel and made only explosion sound.

Yeah, how does a shell make an explosion sound, but it isn't dangerous?

Could Captain Prakorb Imjai kindly show us by allowing one of his non-dangerous but explosion sounding shells to be fired at him?

They are the same ones used during the protest at government house. Just a couple of boom sticks.

Gives me great confidence in the Thai army, this does. Lets hope these geniuses are never required to actually fight.

I really do not know, but it seems as if they only shoot the BANG if there is nothing there. Strange folk these Thai army officers.
But then Logic is not a Thai thing either.

Jeepers. All you do is point out that a Western nation have been missing their targets, and landing their deadly weapons on their own soldiers and the posts get deleted... in a thread about the army shooting off stray ammo.

    odd.

It's okay. 'Other' Western armies specialize in this sort of thing... except that they usually take out a few of their own for good measure.

    :

And there we got the specific Thai piece of the story. Only in Thailand. A shell flying into a school from the other side of the mountain... nah, couldn't be dangerous at all... ROFL

I half agree with you Mao but to be fair of the facts here, most armies would not train in areas where schools are within the firing range and I think the Thai army on this occasion were pretty dumb.

Well seems that the army fires over our house from the south at the army base into the hills on the north, so with a short round, we might get one ourselves someday.
