Phitsanulok, 11th October 2018 (NNT) – Local police have arrested two foreigners on a passenger bus leaving Tak for Mukdahan, over the poaching of tiger remains.
The police confiscated tiger remains, including skulls, dried meat, ankles, male genitalia, ribs, and fat, packed in plastic bags and put into the storage on the Tak-Mukdahan bus at the Phitsanulok Bus Terminal 1.
The police said that they came across the two suspects while carrying out their inspection. The two Vietnamese were later identified as Le Binh, 40, and Nguyen Van Tung, 29, who were then detained for further questioning.
The two Vietnamese confessed that on October 4th they had bought tiger remains from a compatriot known as Tun for 30,000 baht at his house in Tak. They had then boarded a passenger bus from Tak to Khon Kaen and Nong Khai, where they crossed the Thai-Laos border and returned to Vietnam. The police suspect that the two Vietnamese were part of a gang of wildlife smugglers and prosecuted them for the illicit possession of carcasses of protected wild animals.
