BANGKOK, 26th September 2018 (NNT) - The medical boat ‘Vejjapha’ will be deployed to Ayutthaya province in October to provide free medical treatment to people living in riverside communities.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai Red Cross Society, Dr. Suphawat Chutiwong and members of relevant agencies attended a ceremony at the Relief and Community Health Bureau to mark the launch of the medical boat and to honor His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The Thai Red Cross Society built the boat with the aim of educating people in Ayutthaya about healthy living as well as giving them everyday items and treatng sick individuals.
The Vejjapha Medical boat will travel first to Wat Si Kook Temple on October 1st before going to Wat Kasatrathirat Woraviharn Temple the following day and later to Wat Chang Thong Temple on the 3rd of October. It will then proceed to Bang Pa-in District Office and Wat Choeng Tha Temple on October 4th and 5th.
The wooden boat is 3.8 meters wide, 15.7 meters long and 3 meters tall. It is equipped with a kitchen, a dental room, an operating theater and toilets among its facilities. Medical boats have served more than 340,000 people over the past 63 years.
