    Baan Dam Museum in Chiang Rai Officially Opened

    CHIANG RAI – Thailand’s Department of Culture has officially opened Baan Dam Museum, a new tourist attraction showcasing artworks of local and national artists.


    The Director-General of the Department of Culture, Pimravee Watthanavarangkul, on Thursday (Aug 30th) presided over an opening ceremony of an event to celebrate the artistic values and knowledge of a late national artist and contemporary painter, Thawan Duchanee, at Baan Dam Museum in Chiang Rai.


    Born in the northern province, Thawan’s paintings are widely praised and appreciated, both in Thailand and abroad.


    Artistic activities were organized for for students, teachers, artists, and interested persons. The event The event was also held to promote Baan Dam Museum as a cultural tourist attraction.


    The event featured art demonstrations and sales of local handicrafts created by artists from Chiang Rai and neighboring provinces. There were cultural performances and workshops led by national artists.

    Police launch probe into case of late national artist's paintings gone missing

    BANGKOK, 21 September 2018 (NNT) - Police have launched investigation into a case of 113 paintings of late national artist Thawan Duchanee having allegedly gone missing from his house.

    However, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep Sasawet commented that the case might possibly have been related to internal family conflict.

    Those suspected of being involved in the alleged theft of the paintings would be summoned for police questioning, he said.

    Besides, those who may have bought the paintings would be charged with obtaining stolen items, he added.
