Tourism and Sports Ministry launches measure to promote foreign film making in Thaila

BANGKOK, 3rd June 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched a tax intensive measure to promote foreign film making in Thailand.

A tax rebate equal to 15 percent of every 50 million baht spent on the filming locally will be offered.

Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Khowsurat disclosed that the incentive will help boost the country’s revenue from being used as a location for film making and the production of documentaries and reality shows.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has also assigned the Department of Tourism to attract more foreign film producers to Thailand to generate revenue and reputation for the country.

I wonder if they got a tax rebate for making "The Coup" in Chiang Mai?

Oh, I forgot, they renamed it "No Escape". I sure no-one tipped them off.

Generate revenue for the domestic economy?
Doubt that any of said monies will trickle into, or benefit, the country's base economy.

The establishment filters of corruption do not provide such an allowance.

Do Thai authorities want to have a say on the story? I think so but not sure.
The suit against The beach film maker doesn't help either

They have cooks, catering staff, security, drivers, extras to name but a few.

Plenty of little guys get money in their pocket when there's a movie production in town.

What they should do is assist certain Hollywood directors with attention to small details while filming in Bangkok

In Bangkok Dangerous Nic Cage was rising his bike jumping off boats near the floating market then the next shot had him riding the bike down Sutthisan Road
