New truck rest area opens in Nakhon Ratchasima

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 6th May 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport has opened a new truck rest area for drivers in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima. The facility is the country's second rest area designed in compliance with the safety standards.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith has inaugurated the new truck rest area at the weight control station in Non Sung district. Covering an area of 21 acres, the rest area boasts parking lots for 86 trucks and 69 private cars, eight rest pavilions and 61 restrooms. The facility is also equipped with security cameras and lighting to ensure safety for people.

The Ministry of Transport plans to build 41 truck rest areas across the country within 15 years to prevent the risk of criminal assault on motorists, lessen traffic accidents related to fatigue, and to foster regional connectivity and logistics following the arrival of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

One good reason why a lot of truckers will avoid the place and go via a by-pass road.

In the US a rest area is another term for a cottaging area. You know, a place where willie watchers hang out.

The weight control station is not new. It has been there for a few years and it is on the main road (Mitrapap). I don't think trying to avoid it is really practical. Going by other routes instead would double or treble the time on the road, and then after avoiding that particular weigh station, the drivers would have to avoid the other weigh stations located on Mitrapap Road. There are quite a few.

I'm really going by example to where I live. 18km up the road on the 24 is a weigh station. The village road I live on basically doesn't really go anywhere of importance other to circumnavigate the weighbridge. This puts at least an extra 40 km on their journey. So I assume the penalties of going around outweigh, pun not intended, the extra mileage?

Seagate is at Sung Nern (west of Korat city), not Non Sung (north-east of Korat city). They are about 60-70km apart. It's easy to confuse the two names.
