    U-tapao airport buses launched

BANGKOK, 5 May 2018 (NNT) – Three bus routes linking U-tapao with three eastern provinces were introduced to serve passengers and promote the international airport in Rayong.

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) and the Navy jointly introduced the bus routes from the airport to Trat, Rayong and Chon Buri.

The routes are operated by private transport firms using air-conditioned buses with GPS tracking systems and another system to monitor their speed.

DLT Director General Sanit Promwong said the new services would benefit passengers and promote the airport as a new commercial aviation hub for eastern provinces.

When dear Yingluck did not succeeded in handing it over to US Army Meteorology Research Institute, it was found to be good for tourist flights...

U-TAPAO International Airport passenger numbers are expected to double this year and new investment of Bt200 billion to expand the airport’s capacity under the Eastern Economic Corridor Initiative (EEC) is expected to start next year, government authorities say.
    February 18, 2018

Last year, passenger arrivals at the airport were one million, up from 700,000 from the year before, U-Tapao Airport Authority director Rear Admiral Luechai Sri-Eamgool said yesterday. This year the number of arrivals would reach two million. In the first four months of the current fiscal year (October-January) the number of arrivals were about 700,000, he said.

^Like you'd know anything about this (or anything else for that matter) without Google you fucking plum. When was the last time you flew in or out of there?. Never would be my guess...

CSFFan the UTP airport is turning into a small hub, off the top of my head you can now fly direct to Udon, Samui, Phuket, Singapore, Macao, China (I forget the port) and recently Qatar Air started a service to/from Doha. The new terminal opened a few months back and it's been built to handle a lot more PAX than currently pass through it, so there's plenty of scope for more carriers/flights in the future.

Flew out of there in 2002 during Cobra Gold R&R. Bit manic.

Plane was mostly sex tourists taking their teeraks to Koh Samui

As I recall it wasn't that cheap either

Routinely, around 2,000 Baht (or sometimes a lot higher) more expensive for domestic flights than Swampy or Don Muang. Even though it's right on my doorstep, I'd rather give it the swerve and go elsewhere, just on general principle. In the 90's U-Tapao used to have lowish cost carriers and flights to other SEA countries and domestic flights until some Generalissimo decided that it was only going to serve his interests and destinations in Phuket and Ko Samui until the expansion recently. Unless there are any promotions or special price flights from U-Tapao, no thanks.

Yes that's right. If work was quiet back then and I wasn't flying out regularly I use to do visa runs to Phnom Phen from UTP on Bangkok Air, who had 3 or 4 return flights a week. Can't recall the exact cost but it was ridiculously cheap, something like 2200 Baht return. Did that run perhaps 10 times and never saw more than +/- 20 PAX on board so it goes without saying they eventually cancelled the route.
