Thread: Cabbie fined for being rude to foreign passenger

Happened to me at the airport. Driver refused to turn on the meter. He only turned it on when l I opened the door and told him I was getting out. On arrival at Mochit bus station he wouldn't get out of the taxi and help me with my suitcase. I was using a walking stick at the time.

Hope Somchai learned his lesson. What he did was so uncool but, prolly a normal thing for him to do on a daily basis - ripping off foreigners. The bad temper/ name calling was prolly an inborn trait.

Tipping a taxi is not unusual, generally I round up the amount 20 above the metter amount (and of course any extra for tollway and airport surcharge)...If the driver was decent and took the right ways (no unnecessary wandering around the town).

Anyway I wouldn't take it well if a taximan felt he was entitled to a tip thus decided of its amount and scolding me if I dared to complain.

2 different things here, tipping willingly for a good service and getting ripped of because the guy thinks I can afford it anyway.

He looked really sorry thought, genuinely sorry or sorry he got caught?

It never ceases to amaze me, that so many (so-called) smart foreigners, have lived in Thailand for many years, but are never astute enough to realize, that farangs are "tolerated" guests of this Kingdom; not welcomed guests.

I'm not sure if you've ever lived and worked in a foreign country but you may be surprised that most "locals" take the piss out of "immigranst", black, white, yellow, brown ......

I shared a minicab from South London to Heathrow once with an American (as a favour to my regular cab company).

He was amazed at how quick it was. When I asked him why, he said that the Black Cab he got from Heathrow to central London took much longer. He remembered going past Windsor Castle.

So it's not just Thai taxi drivers that have their share of robbing bastards.
