PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 18th February 2018 (NNT) –The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources have accelerated its effort to collect garbage floating off Thalu island in the Gulf of Thailand to prevent impacts on the environment and tourism.

Director of the Marine Resources Conservation Division Wan Chatree disclosed that he had instructed the officials to hurry collect a large amount of floating garbage off Thalu island found in the Gulf of Thailand in Moo 3, Sai Thong sub-district in Bangsaphan Noi district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The large patch of floating garbage was swept into the coastal area by the strong wind caused by a monsoon.

The operation is expected to be completed within 1-2 days. The department’s divers were ordered to dive down and collect some garbage on the sea bed. All the collected garbage will be separated and then treated by Sai Thong Sub-district Administration Organization.
