Health officials on Friday said 60 new Zika virus cases have been detected in Bangkok as officials step up screening for groups at high risk from the disease such as pregnant women.
The new cases were detected scatteredly in 27 districts of Bangkok from January 1 to September 25 this year.
Most cases were detected in 11 districts, namely Bang Na, Bang Khen, Bang Plad, Chatuchak, Sathorn, Phasi Charoen, Ratchathevi, Dusit, Bangkokyai, Prawet and Suan Luang districts.
Among the cases are four pregnant women and they were kept under close monitoring by health officials, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Health Office.
Health officials are now launching active campaign in these districts to eliminate the breeding sources of dengue mosquitoes along with creating awareness among people in the communities to help prevent the spread of the disease, especially among high risk group, pregnant women.
