PHANG NGA, 27 April 2017 (NNT) – The Chief of Ao Phang Nga National Park along with a team of authorities visited Yao Noi island to pick up an orphaned fledgling hornbill, and requests the owner of the other hornbill to return it immediately or authorities will press charges.

Ao Phang Nga National Park Chief Woraphoj Lomlim and a team of authorities visited Koh Yao Noi subdistrict, Koh Yao district, Phang Nga province, to pick up an Oriental pied hornbill after its mother was killed while two other fledgling hornbills were stolen from its nest.

Pictures of the dead hornbill mother at the nest were published on the “Raorak Kohyao” Facebook fan page. So far, only one baby oriental pied hornbill has been returned.

As authorities try to retrieve the other hornbills, the one returned will be kept at the Phang Nga Wildlife Nursery Station, nursed back to health before being released back into the wild when it is ready.

The authorities have asked the owner of the other hornbill to return it immediately before being prosecuted by law for illegal possession of a protected wildlife animal, in accordance with the Wildlife Protection Act 1992.
