LOPBURI, 16 December 2016 (NNT) – Sunflower fields in Lopburi prompted by a local administrative program to aid farmers suffering under low rice prices have resulted in increased tourism in the province as holidaymakers have flocked to photograph the impressive crops.

Nature and photography enthusiasts have begun heading to Lopburi to snap shots of its many blooming sunflower fields with many of the farms setting up tractor rides for visitors to better appreciate the flowers.

Many of the fields were prompted by the Khlong Ket Subdistrict Administration, which encouraged local farmers to also plant sunflowers alongside their main crops as the flowers grow quickly and offer a fast income boost.

Similar success has been reported in Nakhon Si Thammarat where several farms have been able to replace their main crops with sunflowers in a short amount of time. The fields have bolstered income for locals both by giving them another crop to harvest and by attracting tourists.

The fields are expected to remain in bloom until mid-January of next year.
