Boy electrocuted at school's water cooler

ANG THONG — A 10-year-old school boy was electrocuted to death by a malfunctioning water dispenser at a public school in Ang Thong province yesterday.

Witnesses at the Wat Khok Putsa school saw the boy drinking from the water cooler in the canteen shortly before he collapsed with electrical burns to his chest and arms and later died at a hospital, according to Police Cpt. Wanchart Nun-gma of the Po Thong Police Station.

“We have sent the body for a detailed autopsy to establish the clear cause of death,” Police Cpt. Wanchart said. “We will investigate whether this is a case of negligence of the school.”

Bang-orn Bamrungpol, the school director, said school staff became aware the stainless steel water dispenser was malfunctioning, but did not remove it from school grounds. Instead staff simply unplugged the machine, and Bang-orn speculated the boy must have plugged it back in on his own.

All schools in the district have been ordered to inspect their water dispensers for any possible electrical problems, local education official Petcharat Nimpan said.

with the plethora of cheap two pin unearthed poorly assembled, poorly maintained electrical machines that dispense liquids scattered around this third world dump, many of them in schools, hospitals and other government buildings, it is surprising there aren't hundreds more accidents of this nature.

Straight. Amazing how electrical goods distributors here try to palm you off with machines fitted with these cheapo plugs too. If they can't be arsed putting a decent plug on their product, then fcuk them.

    I digress, poor kid.

Even that wont stop a Thai they will strip the insulation & just jamb the bare wire into the socket. They should have removed the unit completely.

That is identical to the water coolers we have at the school where I teach, and the stupidity of the entire case along with the water spout being made of metal is readily obvious.
This thing was not "home made" by the school, some idiot company manufacturers these things.

    Bang on.

The alternative was to speculate that a ghost plugged it in again.

    Ah peelok that or karma.

Imagine how many Lawers would be out of work in the UK and USA if we blamed gross negligence and backward stupidity on ghosts and karma. We would need to bring back soup kitchens.
