SI SA KET — A man on the run for fraud was arrested at his wedding in Kanthararom district and charged with impersonating a police officer — but his startled bride said she will wait for him to get out of prison.

Police descended on Prakasit, aka Saithong, Joolhorm, 33, as he was in the middle of the khan maak procession, carrying offerings to the bride’s residence in tambon Latai, Daily News Online reported Wednesday.

He was initially wanted for fraud committed in Ban Phaeo district, Samut Prakan, on Feb 20, said Kanthararom district police chief Pol Col Udon Maneesai.

He also faces charges of fraudulently wearing a police uniform and using the royal insignia without permission after police found two white police uniforms and a fake lieutenant colonel's insignia, and a ceremonial hat and sword, along with two pictures of Mr Prakasit in police uniform at his home.

The arrest was made in front of hundreds of wedding guests and the shocked bride, who almost passed out and had to be supported by her relatives, according to the reports.

Pol Col Udon said Mr Prakasit posed as a Special Branch, or Santibarn, police officer. The Samut Sakhon native claimed that he could help would-be recruits get positions in any police agency, and assured active officers he could secure them sought after positions or a transfer to a preferred place.

The traumatised bride recovered her poise and later told Khaosod Online that when her fiance has served his time in prison she would still accept him as her husband. She regarded Mr Prakasit as a “good man” and said he had proven several times that he truly and sincerely loved her.

“Being sincere and caring for each other matters in the love between two people. A uniform does not guarantee the love they have for each other,” she asserted.
