Thai roads - Deadliest Songkran in 6 years

Thailand’s roads suffer deadliest Songkran in 6 years; 364 dead

Thailand’s roads claimed 364 lives over the 7-day Songkran holiday, with a further 3,559 people injured, the Road Safety Centre said Thursday. There were 42 more deaths this year than in 2014, making it the highest Songkran death toll since 2009, when 373 people were killed.

The figures, which were announced Thursday, come as a blow to the ruling military government, which has taken extra measures this year to improve public safety during the sometimes-raucous New Year’s holiday.

The Road Safety Centre said Thursday there were a total of 3,373 road accidents from April 9-15, the weeklong holiday period commonly known as “the 7 days of death” in Thailand.

Figures released a day earlier suggest that most of the deaths occurred in Surin province, while Surin and Phitsanulok had the most accidents....

Got to love Surin , eh...sitting quietly without a major Thai league team between Buriram and Sisaket.

It's also home to the International Elephant Festival each November.

Not yet known who was at fault. If a motorbike moves into your path without warning, is it really your fault?

The fine upstanding cop could not possibly be in the wrong, after all he is supposed to enforce the road rules.

Where did you find a picture? I thought looking at the car that is wasn't a chicken chaser. Maybe a grey import Hyabusa or something.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I think it is very simple as it worked for us? Cycling proficiency at school. Children in Thailand go to school one day a week dressed as Scout/Guides why not simply include cycling proficiency or at least issue a badge etc. Sadly my Thai is not good enough to find out who to contact on the Thai Scouting website.

As a child i was not allowed on the streets on a bike unless I passed some form of structured cycling safety exam.

Not really when one considers that a considerable proportion of its population sits on its arse under a tree most of the day topping up on Lao Khao, gambling at cards and gossiping about who has more than the other.

Idle hands and all that. Factor in genetic deficiency and inbreeding and it is no surprise idiocy prevails and alcohol becomes a tool of communication between them all.

Forgot about that. Patts is traditionally quite a lot later than BK.

It's all depends on who is holding the larger vehicle insurance policy.

Depends how fast you're going, the traffic conditions and the speed limit.
