You miss the point a lot. She is a celebrity. Nothing more, nothing less. A nothing. A non entity. Someone of no import at all. Always was, always will be. Not our fault if you seriously believed she was actually the PM and acting on her own initiative....

Millions of people voted for her, and before that she was acting CEO in blue chip company.

I would not call her "A nothing".

    ^ You seem besotted.
If you think she has ever made an independent decision or had an original thought in business or government you are deluded.

Whatever they threw at her, she never really cracked. How many women do you know could take that sort of pressure daily, and yet always appear smart and dignified?

Don't know how anyone could really say she'd never had an original idea or made an independent decision unless they had worked alongside her.

For many folk being a woman and being Thaksin's relative she could never win.

Attractive and she's called an airhead, and the other one is plain looking and is called an ugly dyke.

    Oh well.

She actually refused the first push by her brother to put her up for election as leader of the party, perhaps knowing that the job would be beyond her capabilities.

Looking back whilst in detention now, I suspect she wishes that she had stuck with her initial feelings.

Anyway back on topic, the Andrew MacGregor Marshall opinion piece on Al Jazeera intimates the detention of all these major players may be the military's last attempt to get a concencus in the real elite power play behind the last decade of elite squabbles. Prayuth is hardly an honest broker though, and one key player is in Dubai while another is in 'Europe'. I guess it is possible - but who would represent the working class and poor in those talks? Weng?

Prayuth has already been warned of his international responsibilities under the human rights act , now that he has grabbed power.

He is being watched, charges could follow.

I don't think the international wimps intend to stir an already volatile situation. Best they can do is tut from the sidelines and hope the Thai people accept the new conditions sooner rather than later.

They are squeamish, they don't like blood, they want stability and a cessation to violence, and to this end they don't care a toss who ends up ruling or under which format as long as there are no bodies.

And the same applies if there are bodies, except they would prefer no more; it not only upsets their people but might also give them ideas.

No they voted for her, OK I can see we can have an argument here for the next hundred years. But you're wrong.

You'd have to be very naive to believe they actually voted for Yingluck. They voted for the Shinawatra clan and would have done regardless of who was made head of the party.

SC asset. Do you think that unless big bro basically owned it, she would have the job?

And no, I am not wrong. They vote for the poisoned dwarf.

Many precedents for unintelligent proxy leaders. Reagan the talking puppet, George W, Sonia Gandhi, etc. So what. And in any event, we're talking about Yingluck and the others - including academics and any other vocal lefty being rounded up by the military dictators. Yingluck and her party won the election by a landslide - and no amount of vote buying bullshit accusations can change that. Thailand has lurched so far to the right that Pinochet rotting corpse would blush
