Khon Kaen: Protester feared scapegoating for drugs charges

I won't be a scapegoat, says Khon Kaen road sign protester | Bangkok Post: breakingnews

    Protester feared scapegoating
KHON KAEN - A man who feared he would be made a scapegoat for drug charges climbed up a tall road sign above the highway in Chum Phae district and attached a protest sign and a plastic goat to it on Tuesday.

Wattanachai Chaisiricharoen, 35, hung up a sign saying, "I do not use or sell drugs. My shop was searched twice and I am afraid someone might plant drugs on me".

He then stood there, 15 metres above the road with a knife in his hand, according to a report in Daily News.

Police spent about an hour negotiating with Mr Wattanachai but the man refused to climb down. The police then asked the man's mother to help persuade him.

The man eventually climbed down after the police promised to help him with his problems.

Mr Wattanachai told police that his autoparts shop in Chaiyphum province was searched twice by drugs suppression officers and that no drugs were found. He was scared that someone might plant drugs in his shop and if the police conducted another search he may become a scapegoat for drug charges.

He added that he decided to climb the street sign in Khon Kaen because he wanted to get the attention of the media, so that he would have some protection.

Police said they explained to Mr Wattanachai the different procedures involved in police work and gave him a promise they will contact the drug squad to settle his problem.

Mr Wattanachai was fined 100 baht for carrying a weapon and was sent home.

Good on the guy, it solved his problem and the Bib were given notice by his action.

A minor misdemeanour, resulting in a Bt100 fine for him, a cheap price to pay for security.

    No one got hurt either.

100 Baht for being in possession of a weapon is not a bad deal. Time to start carrying two or three weapons I think...... Wonder if the rates are different for swords, hand guns, RPG's.........

Classic yaba / meth-head behaviour. Lucky he didn't take a hostage up there with him.

Who was he going to stab up there? The plastic goat he took up with him? Himself?

The bit that gets me is that he understood the "scapegoat" meaning.

    Bloody Mama

The mother's shirt looks like she took a chain saw to someone.
