Paetongtarn responds to coffee threat

"Tea or coffee?" It's a question routinely asked by flight attendants aboard airliners, but for Paetongtarn "Ung Ing" Shinawatra, the youngest daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the drink would be poured on her face.

"Now I feel uncomfortable to learn that the person who was supposed to be a flight attendant actually wanted to pour coffee on my face. Tea or coffee?" she posted on Instagram under the nickname Ingshin21.

Paetongtarn was responding to a Facebook posting by a person, name unknown, who claimed to be a flight attendant for Cathay Pacific.

In her Facebook post, the woman said she hated the Shinawatra family and wanted to insult a passenger named Paetongtarn and pour coffee on her face. Paetongtarn's flight schedule was also posted on Facebook.

"I just travelled to see my father and to work. If that's wrong or makes you angry, I apologise. I've never thought somebody would have such an idea. Most of the hostesses on Cathay Pacific are polite," Paetongtarn said.

"Pour coffee" quickly became a buzzword on social networks when the story emerged yesterday.

Yongyuth Luchindanont, Cathay Pacific's Thailand sales manager, said the Hong Kong-based airline was conducting an in-house investigation into the matter. The results will be released in a couple of days, he was quoted as saying by Matichon Online.

"Cathay Pacific has a policy to provide best customer service and not to get involved in the politics of any country," he said.

If a Cathay Pacific trolley dolly has issued a veiled or implicit threat against a passenger, in this case because of who her father is, I trust she will be summarily dismissed by Cathay, which has a duty of care to it's passengers.

people, especially celebs and people in the news are so precious these days, they have full time public relations staff promoting and managing their image, but this silly girl still finds it necessary to feel sorry for herself, whinge and notify the press as soon as a negative comment surfaces.

a throwaway comment on facebook criticises her. she should have maintained her dignity and not responded. the stewardess, if indeed it is a stewardess deserves a reprimand, nothing more.

she is a nothing, a nobody, just the daughter of a rich fugitive who thinks he is above the law.

Kind of uncalled for - the kids are kinda innocent (more or less) in the sleazy dealings of their parents... while I can fully understand the deep dislike people hold for Thaksin and his wife, transferring this onto the kids is kinda uncalled for. At least, as of yet.

As to your question, I would rather request to meet that person, in a neutral place, and discuss with her why they would dislike me so much, when their problem is with my father.

Well, airline personel often get away with not putting the punter first. I remember three PPP MPs being refused boarding on Thai Airways by an over political pilot during the PAD protests, never mind the inconvenience to the other passengers waiting for take off.

Still, you might reasonably expect more from Cathay Pacific who have little to do with Thailand except employing flight attendants from Thailand ( as well as other countries in Asia )
