Chonburi: Two Britons arrested for ATM heists, copied "Fast Five" movie

Two Britons arrested for ATM heists | Bangkok Post: breakingnews

Two Britons arrested for ATM heistsTwo British men arrested for trying to steal ATMs from three banks in Chon Buri province have admitted they tried to copy a robbery depicted in the Hollywood action movie "Fast Five", chief of Chon Buri police said on Friday.

The suspects, Alexander Milbourn, 25, and Shaun Edward Tracy, 34, were nabbed on Thursday after they and another unidentified Briton, who is still at large, allegedly attempted to yank ATMs out of the wall at three bank branches in Si Racha district, using nylon ropes attached to a car, Pol Maj Gen Jamnong Rattanakul told a news conference

In all three attempted robberies, the men were able to tear the ATMs out of the building wall in the early hours of the morning, but failed to open them and take any money out before fleeing because the banks’ alarms were activated and local residents had been woken up.

Police seized from them two nylon slings, four metal hooks, a Nissan sedan and a Nissan pickup truck.

The latest attempted ATM theft was at the Bank of Ayudhya’s Pak Ruam Intersection branch on early Thursday morning.

Mr Milbourn and Mr Tracy allegedly told police they had been living in Thailand for more than 10 years but did not have jobs. They decided to commit the crime after they had run out of money.

They said they had tried to emulate a robbery committed by the main characters in the “Fast Five” movie, who in one scene used two Dodge Challengers to drag a huge vault from a building wall.

They've got to be wishing they had just gone home. Thai bankers have a lot of clout, would not want to be them.

Here's a little anagram for them to ponder whilst doing their porridge :

    Headsdick re'we

I was listening to this at 6.00am today on the way to set up stall at the market. Apparently police were also tipped off by hardware shop owner who reported some dodgy falangs buying thick rope etc. Twats.

Looking at the bright side ( for them ) at least they won't be going home. They'll get free accomodation and food for a few years and get to meet a lot of other like minded people. Almost everything they dreamt of.

Surprising it worked at all, cannot imagine what you would attach the rope to on that car or pick up that could take the force of pulling an atm/vault out of a wall.

There is video of them actually doing this too...I will try to find a YouTube version of it...

Pattaya One are running the story too....not much more to add...

Two Pattaya Brits arrested following three bungled ATM Robberies | Pattaya One - Pattaya News, Thailand News, World News, updated 24 hours a day

Two Pattaya Brits arrested following three bungled ATM Robberies

    29th June 2012

Two of three British suspects thought to be involved in the theft of three ATM machines within Chonburi Province have been arrested by Provincial Transnational Crime Suppression Police Officers.

The three incidents occurred in Laem Chabang and Bowin which is in Sriracha District.

Police were able to arrest the suspects by-chance after they traced the nylon cord used to grab the ATM machines to a shop in Sriracha District.

When Police went to the shop, the two suspects were inside and later found to be the two involved in the ATM thefts.

Police Lieutenant General Panya, Region 2 Police Commissioner, held a press conference at Chonburi Police Headquarters on Friday morning to announce the arrest of Mr. Alexander Milbourn aged 24 and Mr. Shaun Edward Tracy aged 34 who were both unemployed and had resided in Pattaya for the last 10 years.

They had allegedly devised a plan with a third man, also British, known only as “Richard”, to use Nylon rope attached to a rented vehicle with the other end attached to the cash box of the ATM machine which would then be yanked from the wall.

In all three cases the cash boxes could not be opened and the broken ATM machines would be abandoned by the assailants.

The men are thought to have gained inspiration for the robberies from the “Fast Five” Movie which used the same method to successfully remove money from ATM Machines.

Police are now hunting for the third suspect in this case and for now Mr. Milbourn and Mr. Tracy remain behind bars pending Court proceedings.

Life must be gloomy when you're looking at a long time in prison.

Anyone catch this video from the USA Thursday, another defendant looking at a long prison term apparently killed himself in the courtroom immediately after the verdict was read.

They went back to the shop that they bought the rope from? They also left new strops at the crime scene? These guys can not be described as professionals now can they?

How long do you get in Thailand for bank robbery and how long for stupidity?

At the end of the day, no amount of physical security can stop someone breaking into something; but then the reality is that all you need is enough security to delay the thieves long enough for people to respond to your actions.

Looks like bolting to the floor and some locked steel is genuinely enough here.

As for our embarrassingly thick criminals. three attempts before they worked out they needed to rethink their. why the fuck didn't they rent a truck, something to pull the atm into the truck so they could drive off with the thing under a tarpaulin.

Property crime at night gets you a very long stretch. what did those essex boys get for just putting a skimmer on an ATM? these chaps should get far more time

How long do you get in Thailand for bank robbery and how long for stupidity?
the only precedent I can think of was the chap caught in lubrini park with drugs he successfully smuggled though the airport. he got 50 years... I think 20 for the smuggling and 30 for stupidity
