^Zactly. You don't have to like the law, but you will suffer the consequences if you get caught breaking it. Same everywhere. Some people have trouble grasping simple concepts like actions and consequences.

After you're caught is not the time to argue the merits or faults of the law and punishment.

Things that were bad grew exponentially, and policing has not. Real policing, that is.

And tell someone who has had a glass smashed into their face by some pissed up dickhead, or someone whosekid has been killed by a drink driver, or a wife beaten by her drunk husband that alcohol is a "safe" drug.

It's not the drug itself which causes someone to do crazy shit, it's already in them. Cannabis is much less likely to cause someone to act violently than alcohol. In the vast, vast majority of cases it has the exact opposite effect in fact.

Someone who can chew the face off someone doesn't need any drug to do something nuts, they're obviously already mentally disturbed.

Maybe he just had a really bad case of the munchies.

The people you see toking on a spliff are mostly lowlife because they're the only twats daft enough to be walking around smoking it in public. Same as the only people you see swaggerring around drinking cans of lager in public tend to be lowlife.

What you don't see is the everyday, tax-payng individuals from all walks of life who enjoy the odd joint in the privacy of their own home of an evening, or at a private gathering.
