Non Immigrant ED Visa, Multiple Entry

    Good afternoon everyone,

I am currently living in Chiang Mai and doing an internship as part of my studies in the Netherlands. I therefore have a Non-Immigration ED Visa with multiple entries. I have been in Thailand almost 2 months now and will have to renew my visa before the 1st of May.

Now, at first I assumed I just had to do a regular visa run and get a new stamp upon entering the kingdom. Later I heard that I have to go to the Immigration Office in Chiang Mai first to confirm my current living address here in Chiang Mai and then after that go on a visa run to get a new stamp.
I read on the Chiang Mai Forum a rather confusing post (to me at least) that said that all I had to was go to the Immigration after three months (or whenever before the three months are over) to get a new stamp for an additional three months.

Which of the above is true, if any?

Also, which documents do I have to bring to the Immigration Office if I have to go there? Passport obviously, and most likely also the proof of residence from my apartment.
Do I also need to bring something from school or the company where I am doing my internship at?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

Also, do I have to register my current address with the Immigration Office at all?

Is it recommendable to go to the Immigration Office on Saturdays? I assume that's the busiest day but unfortunately it is also the only day that I am not working. I could get half a day off, but I would rather not.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Cheers,

I am getting an ED visa for someone and I am told that the school [or company in your case] should be able to help you. I am doing mine at the university of Chiang Mai and they tell me you have to go to immigration every 90 days - not a border run.
Just go to the immigration office and show them your visa and ask them what you have to do. They are always very helpful to me.
Take the time off, I don't think they are open on weekends,go in just after lunch mon- fri and you should be done in less than an hour

Just been reading some Education websites.
If you get a letter from the MoE saying that you are attending a course then you only need to go to your local immigration office and get a 90 day extension to your permission to stay.
    Extension fee is 1900 baht

But the 1-year ed visa already costs 29,000 baht. Does this mean the holder of this visa must pay an additional 1900 every 3 months!

The OP stated that he wanted 90 days.

If the letter from the MoE states the course duration then it may be possible to get a longer extension.

Unless the immigration office visit is mandatory, then depending on where one resides, it would be cheaper just to make a border run. The Thais charge nothing for a 15-day permission to stay and issue them theoretically indefinitely.

Burmese charge 250 Baht at the Mae Sot border, but it costs a lot more to get there by bus (over 300 B one way from CM) + 250/night for hotel; or 500 B at Mae Sai or $10, which amounts to about 330 B. Mae Sai can be done in a single day from CM.

the OP could make 6 of these.

I suppose if a real idiot wanted to prove how intelligent he was he could belabor this point into eternity,

but as my last desperate defense of this argument, I could suggest it depends on whether he has a motorcycle, or can fly or travel by telepathy, etc.

If he spent one night in Mae Sot it adds up roughly as 650 for bus, 250 for hotel, 250 for the burmese = roughly 1100. Then 800 for ho's and booze.

    So six border runs would cost 6 x 1100 = 6600 baht.

You did read the OP didn't you ?
Raeffnix is attending the course he isn't just trying to stay in LOS for a year.

    Ok problem solved.
The best I can figure out so far is as follows:
    1. The OP gets 6 ten-dollar bills (USD) in CM.
This makes his burmese fee about 360 B per trip, including the foreign exchange bite.
    2. He drives a motorcycle to Mae Sae.
    3. He returns the same day.

This makes his fees about 720 a month, or 2160 for 3 months, not counting motorcycle expenses.

So, you are correct, he will do better financially if he goes to immigration.

However, if he does not go to Mae Sae, he will miss the opportunity of surrendering to his monstrous lusts and thereby meeting the amazing burmese girl who has managed to remain exactly 17-years old for the past 10 years.
