Single entry will only give you 90 days to get yourself sorted out .
If you get a mutiple entry you can stay for up to 15 months with border runs.
If you're coming to research retirement, I presume that means you'll go home after a month or so to straighten things up before coming here to live (or not). In that case, no visa required. Just get a tourist stamp on your way in.
If you plan on staying for several months, get the multiple entry. Less hassle if/when you have to leave to come back in.
Where are you going to apply?
^^
Probably won't be able to open a bank account without a Non Imm Visa
I did -- in 2002. Maybe they've tightened the rules.
If he's married to a Thai he definitely can -- a joint account.
shouldn't be a prob at Kasikorm. Especially if you have a GF in hand.Originally Posted by Thetyim

^ yes the visa is valid for 1 year from the date of ISSUE, not the date you arrive in thailand. So you could get a visa issued tomorrow in USA or wherever and arrive in thailand in 364 days and you would get a 90 day stamp
depending on your age, type of pension, money in the bank, married/single....If you can answer some questions first it is easier to help you with questions. The basic "OA" retirement visa can be taken care of in the US which gives you a one year visa with the possiblity of doing a border run prior to the end of the year which would in effect give you another year without going through the paper work drill. There are two ways; 65000baht per month pension or 800,000baht in a Thai bank account for a 3 month period prior to requesting a long term permission to stay visa.
Try this site Vinnie, it should answer most if not all of your questions: Thailand Visa Information
Ciao!
Better get it home, cause you enter without one I think you are screwed. Only 30 days.
Hi navynine, I am 67, married but seperated, no plans for divorce. My pension
is about $2,400 usd, net per month. I was thinking about a retirement visa,
but I thought I read somewhere that you had to have arival date, ticket number.
If this is so, I guess I can change my plans, ang arive in Thailand, and make my trip later.
Thanks, again
