    British Visa for Thai Wife

My wife and I are going to the States in September and will be going via LHR, staying for 3 days on the way back.

I've looked on the British Embassy website and found most of the info I need to get a tourist visa. But a few things I'm not clear on and thought that maybe you guys can help.

    1) Where exactly is the Regent Hotel? I can't find a map on the web site.

    2) Can we just show up to apply? The US embassy has an appointment program now that's actually pretty efficient. But it looks like the UK embassy is still using the just-show-up model.

    3) I had another question but it's slipped my mind now. If you have any advice for applying for the visa, please let me know. I think she'll get it as she's been there before, been to the US twice and has a new 10-year visa for the States.

    Thanks,
    Billy

    Extras,

Thanks for the extra info. The site you mentioned is the one that they give you after you visit the agency. I don't think it's on the British Embassy site. The map on the 'VFS' site would have been helpful. It would have saved me 10 minutes walking in the heat, at least

Once we got there and paid the fee (at the bank down stairs, which opens around 8:20, ten minutes before VFS opens) it was less than a one-hour wait. The guy there said it's normally 30-60 minutes.

There were only 20 people there when we first showed up.

The review process takes 3-5 working days to approve or deny the visa. It's working day two now and the problem today is that I can't get onto the site to check the status...

I've emailed them and asked "Hey, what IS?" and am awaiting a courteous British reply :P

In my experiences at the British Embassy in BKK, the only courtesy shown was that from the Gurkhas that supply the security. Sadly, I would say not to expect expect any prompt reply.

    Also in Ban Chang.

This just in in reply to yesterday's email. So much for ease-of-use over the Internet. Now I'm going to have to keep calling until I get through. Sort of like trying to get concert tickets in the 80's....

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email of 31/07/2007.

We are sorry to inform you that all the system to track the application in our centre and on the website are not available now. Applicant would have to call to the tempolary numbers 02-254-1098-9 on Monday to Friday, 0830-1630 hours. The lines may be busy because there are so many people calling. It would automaticly run the recorded message if there is nobody answering the call.

For information on how to submit an application including the documents required and visa fees or for tracking your application or any visa related enquiries please visit our website, www.vfs-uk-th.com

You can also find further information regarding visit entry requirements on the website www.ukvisas.gov.uk
