    Dual Passports

The wife has Australian and Thai passports and I am wondering if it is legally possible to leave Australia using the Australian passport and enter Thailand on a Thai passport and reverse on the way back to Australia?

    Yes

Might have to show the Thai passport to the airline staff to show that she doesn't need a visa

My wife does it all the time from the PI to the US and back. Just have both available as they will usually want to see both on the Filipino end - US doesn't care as long as you go in and out on US. Presume same is true for Oz/Thai.

Yes. Not only possible, but it would be ill-advised to do it any other way.

In general, if you're a citizen of country X, you should only enter/exit it on your passport from X and not on a different passport you have (exact rules and enforcement may vary). So, always enter/exit Thailand on a Thai passport, and enter/exit Australia on an Australian one.

The airline may want to see both passports during check-in (to make sure you can exit/enter legally).

It only gets difficult when her Thai name is in the UK Passport and Married name in the Thia Passport. Feck the cost and trouble trying to get a name change in her UK passport at short notice was a nightmare.
