There were by NYPD estimate 32,500 demonstrators gathered the day following the attempt by the police to break up the protest on Wall Street. The movement doesn't look to be losing steam quite yet.

It would seem too much to hope that the police would declare themselves on the side of the protesters, or stage a protest action of their own. For every oficer that may empathise there is another that gladly flexes his power, and of course in these days of hardship keeping ones job, a roof over their head and food on their table will surely overide any feeling of idealism.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Boonme, you certainly are a son of the devil.

The more violence against the protestors the more others will join their movement.

Some info on Wikipedia. This is new to me.

"The Occupy movement is an international protest movement which is primarily directed against economic and social inequality. The movement proper started in Kuala Lumpur on July 30, 2011, with Occupy Dataran, followed by New York City and San Francisco on September 17, 2011, with Occupy Wall Street and Occupy San Francisco."

Boonme, do you really think that the US government has never used violence to get change?

As it is now, the police are the ones using violence. They are beating people in the hope that they change them.

Then there was that other great advocate of change.....the bold Joseph Stalin. Did wonders for the Russian phesants,...and anyone else seen as anti-soviet....
His labor camps back East were legendary for changing peoples attitudes... that is if they survived the walk to get there.

You lot seem to be very worried about the "socialists" taking over , or the government taking your hard earned money and giving it to pregnant drug addicted homeless gay immigrants. But the thing is, that isn't socialism. That's what the Fox Fear Factory wants you to think. Do you think there were a lot of immigrants in communist Russia leeching off the system? Do you think China takes a ton of money from the rich and gives it to the poor? Nope. The poor people in those countries were/are REALLY poor. They don't get handouts, and they don't have rights.

No matter what you think about the "occupy" protesters, it is their constitutional right to assemble and speak out. You should be ecstatic that so many people are so free as to be able to exercise their FIRST AMENDMENT rights. That sure couldn't happen in a socialist country.

Furthermore, the closest thing to totalitarian SOCIALIST government that I've seen in this whole "occupy" movement is police in riot gear attacking, gassing, and firing upon UNARMED PEOPLE who are not threatening anyone. Yes sir, if socialism is what you're worried about, then worry about the police state, not the peaceful protester. We've seen this before! Think about Tiananmen Square and the relation between socialism, oppressor, and oppressed. THAT'S the socialism Americans ought to fear.

Yeah, just look what it got them. Suspended.

Two UC Davis campus police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave over their controversial use of pepper spray on student protesters, university officials announced Sunday as the UC system president said he was “appalled” by the incident and promised a review of police procedures at all 10 University of California campuses.

You will make the old geezers heads explode. They were so very indoctrinated by the cold war anti-red propaganda it is all they see. Reds under the bed and all that stuff, ya know.

Time for them to move over and let the young people have a say in what their country will look like in the future.

This kind of thing is in line with the actions of some big unions. If you join us you are a "Brother" or a "Sister". If you don't you are a scab, and we will beat the crap out of you.....and trash your car.

Then there is usually a speech about "freedom" and the rights of workers.......

....oh and Bsnub....nobody is saying the "occupiers" don't have a right to assemble and speak out. They do.....

They do not have a right however to camp on and occupy public...and in some cases private property on a semi-permanent basis, and provoke the cops into kicking their ass for the cameras, just to score propaganda points.

If they can drag a grannie or two down to the site to get pepper sprayed or bring in a few toddlers to get hurt in the takedowns....all the better. Most of the well known terrorist groups around the world use similar tactics. The video results are always properly edited to show how peaceful and serene the protesters are and how draconian and brutal the cops are. Strange how the most vitrolic and confrontational protests always and without exception claim to be "peaceful"

There will often be over reactions from individuals on both sides during these kinds of confrontations, even when it is a genuinely peaceful event, but when the over reaction comes from the side of authority....it is treated very differently. The whole army gets blamed if one soldier steps out of line. Absolute BS. When the cop is seen spraying a bunch of people who won't respond to a request to clear the road....he is seen as draconian...even though he may have spend an hour trying to reason with them before he takes the action shown in the propaganda video. Editing and selective reporting is pretty standard practice on both sides.

Why do you always make excuses for them when they stike the first blow but when it's a cop who strikes out first (out of sheer frustration at being spat on) you want to paint the whole police force as thugs?

Again; the system does needs some changing. We all know that. Even FOX seems to agree... These people will not change it because they don't know how, and most of them don't even have a clue how it works, or why it failed. They just know about those mysterious "banksters" and whatever a few aging anti-establishment pseudo academics tell them...and of course Michael Moore.. They are just being a nuisance. That can (and has been) tolerated for some months now. It was not going to be tolerated indefinitely.....

The system will change, out of necessity, but it will be changed by men (and maybe a few women) in suits working in well furnished offices..(probably with photo's of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan on their desks.....) .and not by dope smoking, un-employable wards of the state, living in Wal-Mart tents yelling insults and provoking the local cops, to get media attention.

There is a natural tendency in many of us to root for the underdog, and there is a lingering bit of rebel in many of us.....but we also have to accept that the underdogs actions are not always right....and a spot of pepper or high pressure water hose is entirely appropriate at times.... Anyhow, it will be getting a bit cool now and the snow will be coming soon enough. The dope will freeze in the needles and the guitar strings will start to rust.

Bank executive bonuses will be announced shortly.......up on the 20th floor this is known as "wealth distribution"....
