This is off-topic somewhat but I'll just put it here regardless given it doesn't deserve its own thread:

"What are they gonna do? Vote me out of my job?"
- Quote from lady voted out of her job.
Without wishing to upset Snubby, this is actually bad for the Democrats.
The Gop will now submit a succession of stupid legislation (with amusing, deceptive titles like the "Give everyone a job and a million dollars bill") for them to block, and then come 2020 they will be screaming from the rooftops how the Democrats are the "do nothing congress" and how they've "stopped the country moving forward", etc. etc.
It will be an even stronger platform if they can complain that the Democrats spent more time attacking baldy orange cunto than "being Bipartisan" or some shit.
So the party that has defined Partisan in recent history will throw that shit at the Democrats and, because a large chunk of the American electorate appear to have the attention span of a gnat with ADHD, the voters will lap that shit up.
It's what America has become. And the Republicans are better at it.

Dems should replace her with a more acceptable face, and hopefully some principles that don't herd middle America into a communal wretch. But she's a powerful woman and anyone trying to oust her would have to deal with the lacerations.
A Couple of key observations from me. Today we saw that the demographics of this country is changing rapidly. Tonight a black female is in a too close to call race for governor of Georgia, Andrew Gilliam literally split the vote in Florida in half and Beto did the same in Texas. These things would not have been possible 2,4,6 and especially not 10 years ago. The inevitable reality is that in 2, 4 or 6 years from now these states as well as others in the south and Midwest will undoubtedly be shifting blue. America is a changing nation and it is not changing in the favor of the aging GOP.
Secondly dems flipped many state governments today. That will have major implications on the local scale.
All in all not the perfect election many of us hoped for but it is a big win nonetheless. We now have checks on this administration and that means the next two years will contain even less "winning" then the first two.
Just announced, Jackie Rosen - D wins senate seat in Nevada. One of the few bright spots for Democrats in the senate races. If Tester goes on to lose in Montana it's going to be particularly bitter.
far too negative a take, IMO.....the dems picked up ~30 seats in what is undeniably a heavily gerrymandered system in many states.
furthermore, the senate map was incredibly brutal this cycle and the prospect of a black man becoming governor of florida was always in doubt....and let's not overlook the wins in the races for governor (kansas turned away from kobach and walker is out!).
taking the senate would have been great...but it wasn't never a realistic possibility.
IMO this was a good first step bringing the country back towards sanity.
I think one of the most poignant of things we should take away tonight is that we may have just found our candidate for 2020 in Beto O'Rourke.
if biden commits to one term, a biden / o'rourke ticket would be appealing to many of the voters clinton failed to win over in 2016.

Interesting line of thought. May well have been better if the repub's did maintain control of all three legs of the stool. Then they would be entirely responsible for the full four. Now there will be an absolute flood of "finger-pointing" going into the 2020 presidential election.
I don't know if it's just that the GOP is better at it (they are) but also that their own base seem more inured to the hypocrisy and willing to accept being fed shit and then asking for more.
Harry for being a Brit is very knowledgeable of US politics as he has been posting in SC for years and is a student of US domestic affairs. But he does fall short sometimes and what he fails to account for is the rapidly changing demographics in the sunbelt states from Florida all the way to Arizona. see my post #206.
I am disappointed but still happy about what happened in Florida, Georgia and Texas. It reinforces that times are changing in the south.
That is madness. If they held the house they would have been emboldened enough to take aim at things like Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, Obamacare etc. It would have been a nightmare of damage and now none of that will happen. Tonight was a good night not great but good. I am happy with what happened.
I just want to say that we have not heard the last of Beto O'Rourke, Andrew Gilliam and Stacy Adams. They will be in play in the future and will be rising stars in the democratic party.
