The EU wishes to engender a massive socialist state where everyone is equal and all people share in the wealth of nations.
In reality, this is both unworkable and unattainable. The USSR tried something similar following the excesses of the Tzars and the suffering of World War Two. Even this totalitarian ideal failed in the end.
You can cite all the reasons you like, but in the end, countries and individuals are different. Trying enforced homogenization does not work because, even in a faux democracy, Germany and Greece, and Latvia and Spain have very little in common, economically, socially and politically.
Geography and trade apart, the U.K. is very different even to our nearest neighbors in Europe.
Do we want to work together on areas of common interest? Yes of course it makes sense to share our efforts and aspirations on crime, security and trade. Do we want to share the bland yet costly socialist paradise envisioned in completely different areas, by the French and the Poles? No thank you.
There are areas where it helps everyone to work more closely, but trying to engineer a ‘one size fits all’ policy’ for increasingly disparate states is a futile and expensive mistake.
The EU social ideal should be restricted to those areas of commonality where everyone benefits, not expanded into a political ideal that actually divides more than it connects.
Downsize the beast and allow it to function for the greater benefit of all and it might even succeed naturally, without being ordered to do so by some unelected Brussels idealist.

It's only a matter of finding a successor that both party fractions can unite behind and she'll be gone.

That's simply not going to happen.

    BREXIT is just too polarising.

But what can happen is they can get a BREXITer other than Bozza in and the dissension will be muted as long as it looks like he can keep them in power.

Currently, with the maybot short-circuiting on a daily basis, it's looking like an election is labour's to lose.

Which they've managed to do quite spectacularly in the past, of course.

    meanwhile in the real world,

The EU is to begin preparing for its post-Brexit trade negotiations with the UK, while refusing to discuss the matter with the British government.

An internal draft document seen by the BBC suggests the 27 European Union countries should discuss trade among themselves while officials in Brussels prepare the details.

It comes as the EU's chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, said there was "deadlock" over the UK's Brexit bill.

Brexit: EU 'to prepare' for future trade talks with UK - BBC News

    UK completely fucked

Deadlock over UK's Brexit bill, says EU's Michel Barnier - BBC News

Mr Barnier said: "I am not able in the current circumstances to propose next week to the European Council that we should start discussions on the future relationship."

During my recent trip back to Blighty I detected among self confessed leavers that they are now undergoing buyer's remorse and beginning to regret their earlier vote. The unfolding disaster and imminent collapse of the Tory government with the likelihood Corbyn will govern seems to be a forgone conclusion and I really do now think Britain might yet see sense and shrink back from its stupidity.

Of course, my research was mostly limited to the intelligent and articulate and so I have no idea of what Bumbumboy's friends are thinking.........and in truth, who cares?

SeekingAss returns from internet free deepest darkest Isaan and claims to have been in Blighty as predicted. If you had actually been in Blighty and spoken to people you would be aware that the likes of Barnier and Juncker with their threatening statements have converted many a remoaner to become an ardent Brexiteer.

Typical of the EU. Groundless procrastination due to fear of failure.
How is it possible to negotiate while stupidly refusing to discuss the matter with the opposing side. The arrogant prick has obviously been following buttfly posting without realizing he’s just a shit storing wind up merchant, with no skills or relevant experience.

Err, what threats? They have simply said that in view of the inability of Davis and his enfeebled team to offer anything more than nebulous and inane platitudes, cheap re-cycled rhetoric and vacuous undertakings, no meaningful progress can be made in the Brexit negotiations. But, hang on Bumbumboy, didn't you say that a hard Brexit was a good thing and it was the best outcome for you Kipper loons. You should be pleased. Barnier et al are giving you morons what you want, you should be thanking them.

There was always going to be a so called hard Brexit you moron as in leaving the single market and customs union. So you met a few other wrinklies up in Isaan then also struggling on their state pensions, if you'd actually been to the UK you'd see the mood is somewhat different.

Stagflation due to austerity and the daft Brexit decision. Meanwhile European economies are picking up.

how so, you are a belgian, a "larbin" of the french, who are in turn the bootlicking bitches to the strict german oberherren you love to bend over for.

the whole concept of the eu is fatally flawed,

if it was purely a trading organisation it would be fine, but the political aspirations of the bureaucrats, with their hunger for power, their propensity for book cooking and their dogmatic imperialism have rendered it unsuitable for british participation.

we are not sheep, to be led unthinkingly like you euro wimps into whatever grand plan the drunkards of brussels have dreamt up. we are brits, an independent island people, we play fair and are not beholden to anybody, not least the warring tribes of europe.

we are not afraid of a hard brexit, we dont need your poser cars or your smelly cheeses or feel the need to grovel for the parsimonious handouts you bribe us with. you may be happy to scrabble for the leftover crumbs thrown to you after the germans have engorged themselves, but we are not.

in 5 years time, lets see who is right.

you lot, including a deranged belgian arse bandit and an apoplectic ageing ex-civil servant who in order to justify his foul mouthed rage, spits out government statistics like a tickertape machine on overdrive, all the while crying foul over his devalued pension and the rising costs of his expensive sauvignon blanc semillon habit as he lives enshrouded in a miasma of anger in a sewage infested shithole in thailand, ........

........or me... the laconic pragmatic brit living in the real world in complete control of my senses, sanity and emotions and who plays this for what it is, a very long game that will eventually see us well rewarded for our bravery and refusal to become a minor player in an increasingly failing project ruled by the germans and french, who let us not forget ...... have some dismal previous in such matters.

As we sit here in Oz watching this charade unfold while we sip on a nice home grown wine or a nice cold Australian beer. We trade with the world and we dont need anywhere near the competition stagnating tariffs or huge amounts of farmer welfare. We can laugh at the huge amount of wastage that is part and parcel of the E.U. We have our problems to be sure but the E.U. does not make great countries it makes mediocre ones. The U.K. will survive just as well outside of the Vaterland as it did before.
Even refugees were smart enough to know where the place to be in Europe was. Most making a beeline for Germany. The ones in France had either got lost or were heading for the U.K.
Personally I'm sure the Germans will miss the U.K. the most, as they will now have to cover more of the cost of the welfare bill to their untergeordnete Klassen.
The French of course, are salivating over the possibility of the financial industry moving to France from London to help prop up their ailing economy, a pipe dream of course. If there is any movement it will be to the country in charge of the E.U. economy. At least Germany will be able to save some money by getting rid of all the dual language rubbish and reduce it to the dominant Deutsche Sprache. After all what better than one europe one language. no need to change the European anthem. It's German anyway.

Stupidity is your dominion and ignorance your currency, you Antipodean twat. The EU is your third largest trading partner after the Chinks and the Nips, and you operate a nice little exclusive trading partnership agreement with it which, since 2015, your government has been busily turning into a fully fledged FTA. You export 13 billion Euros worth of trade to the EU but import over 30 billion Euros. In short, you suck EU cock, you Ocker prat.

Smart and challenging words, but it's not a game of conkers with a winner and loser.

When the EU goes down as it must, being run by unelected power crazy Socialists, do you or anyone else think Britain won't sink with it?

Or is the challenge to be last one on its knees?
