Senate blocks Trump from making recess appointments over break

The Senate blocked President Trump from being able to make recess appointments on Thursday as lawmakers leave Washington for their summer break.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), doing wrap up for the entire Senate, locked in nine "pro-forma" sessions — brief meetings that normally last roughly a minute.

The move, which requires the agreement of every senator, means the Senate will be in session every three business days throughout the August recess.

And, I am glad John Kelly is in the Whitehouse. At least there is a capable and sane man there in case of a huge problem arises which dimwitted Trump is not able to handle.
Glad to see that Congress sees the importance of reeling in this clown boy.

outside of lowering taxes, trump doesn't care about any policy issue...not immigration, health care, abortion etc... all he cares about is himself.

if he cared so much about america, americans, or any of these issues, why did he wait until his 70s to do anything related to public service?

FFS, when did he even become a republican? he couldn't even vote for a republican in the 2012 presidential primary because he wasn't registered as a republican.

He has not even passed a fiscal budget yet. He has had nothing to do with the stock market and you are a complete imbecile if you think otherwise. The market was surging long before he was even in office.

At least he's not some fuckwit troll. He's shown more balls in the last week than you've ever held in your mouth, and that's sayin' something.

On a TD standard of trolling, I'd have to give you a -7 out of 10. Up your game, douchebag. Seriously. Up Your Game.

With the leaks of the phone calls, do you think Priebus has a calendar that he's been filling out of what leaks when just to thank Trump for letting him serve?

I've not been to Vietnam and have never really read about Vietnamese telling stories of how lucky they were to avoid McCain's personal bombing campaign.

How did McCain benefit from his father being an admiral?

He flew 23 combat missions over hostile territory. Because of the familial connections you whine about, he could have saved himself 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton but refused the offer of early release because he wouldn't abandon his comrades.

BREAKING: US attorney general says four charged in crackdown on leaks

The US attorney general has said four people have been charged over leaks as the Trump administration launched a crackdown on embarrassing disclosures.

Jeff Sessions said the suspects were accused of divulging classified material or concealed contacts with foreign intelligence officers.

America's top prosecutor said the administration has tripled the number of active leak probes since January.

President Donald Trump has criticised Mr Sessions as "very weak" on leaks.

    Leaks 'staggering'

At Friday's news conference, Mr Sessions said no government could be effective when its leaders could not talk freely in confidence with foreign leaders.

"I strongly agree with the president and condemn in the strongest terms the staggering number of leaks undermining the ability of our government to protect this country," he told reporters.

He said there had been a "dramatic" increase in recent months of unauthorised disclosures to the media and even foreign adversaries.
The attorney general also said he wanted to review policies on media subpoenas - compelling journalists to testify in court - to balance the role of the press with protecting national security.

The Russia investigation is no longer an intelligence probe, but a criminal investigation too. That is a significant turn, but it is not unusual.

There was already a grand jury being used by the FBI before special counsel Robert Muller was appointed.

It is common for prosecutors to convene grand juries to question witnesses and gather evidence, and it would be odd if Mr Mueller did not.

Even Ty Cobb, the President's lawyer, said he welcomed anything that "accelerates the conclusion" of Mr Mueller's work fairly.

However, this development also suggests it could now be months - if not years - until it is fully concluded.

There is an old adage that a prosecutor can get a jury to indict a ham sandwich, but we have no way of knowing what they will find. What we do know is there are now more tools to investigate with.

The only reason we know about the grand jury at all is because of yet another leak.

Republican senator Lindsey Graham told me it is vital there are not any more leaks, whether from the jury or Mr Mueller's office.

He added that he believes any move to get rid of Mr Mueller would "unleash holy hell" and be "incredibly foolish".

Senator Graham dismissed President Trump's claim the Russia investigation is a "witch hunt."

He says he personally has seen "no evidence of collusion," but like many other Republican congressmen he wants "America to know the damage Russia has done".

He will be keeping a close eye on preserving the integrity of Mr Mueller's probe and ensuring it is a professional and fair one.

But Mr Trump seems to have little faith it will be.

And Michael Caputo, a former Trump campaign adviser, told me the investigations are nothing but a "silent coup that won't succeed".
Grand jury means Trump investigation may take years to conclude
