I heard on BBC news today about a car ramming into a bus stop in Australia by an Afghan with mental health issues.
I can't find a thread on it, thought it might be tucked up into this one.

Australia ends anti-ISIS strikes in Iraq & Syria, pulls fighter jets but vows to continue ‘support’

    https://www.rt.com/news/413923-australia-ends-airstrikes-iraq-syria/

What Will It Take To Get Rid Of ISIS?-drnf1qtvaaadece-jpg
"The Royal Australian Air Force is withdrawing its jets from anti-terrorist missions in Iraq and Syria, shifting its focus to “support” and provide “counter-terrorism services” to the Iraqi Security Forces.

    TrendsIraq carnage, Syria war

Iraq formally declared its fight against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) over on December 9 after three years of heavy combat. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the withdrawal of the Russian Air Force from Syria two days later. Having carried out its first combat mission against IS in Iraq in September 2014, Australia is now recalling most of its airpower from the region, after having faithfully served the US-led Coalition."

Some of course will remain for an undisclosed time or until ameristan no longer require the vassals fig leaf.

Coalition retraining 15,000 veteran SDF fighters to serve as Syrian border force

"The U.S.-led Coalition against Islamic State is currently training a force to maintain security along the Syrian border as the operation against ISIS shifts focus. The 30,000-strong force will be partly composed of veteran fighters and operate under the leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces, CJTF-OIR told The Defense Post.

“The Coalition is working jointly with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to establish and train the new Syrian Border Security Force (BSF). Currently, there are approximately 230 individuals training in the BSF’s inaugural class, with the goal of a final force size of approximately 30,000,” CJTF-OIR Public Affairs Officer Colonel Thomas F. Veale said.
“The base of the new force is essentially a realignment of approximately 15,000 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces to a new mission in the Border Security Force as their actions against ISIS draw to a close.”
The BSF will be stationed along the Euphrates River Valley – marking the western edge of the territory within Syria currently controlled by SDF – and the Iraqi and Turkish borders, he said."

One wonders what the Syrian Government along with the UN think about a foreign countries unilaterally deciding the affairs of another country. Something in the UN Charter probably disallows this type of action.

Subsequently at a University The Secratary of State commented:

Remarks on The Way Forward for the United States Regarding Syria

"In short, Syria remains a source of severe strategic threats, and a major challenge for our diplomacy. But the United States will continue to remain engaged as a means to protect our own national security interest. The United States desires five key end states for Syria:

First, ISIS and al-Qaida in Syria suffer an enduring defeat, do not present a threat to the homeland, and do not resurface in a new form; that Syria never again serves as a platform or safe haven for terrorists to organize, recruit, finance, train and carry out attacks on American citizens at home or abroad or against our allies.

Second, the underlying conflict between the Syrian people and the Assad regime is resolved through a UN-led political process prescribed in UN Security Council Resolution 2254, and a stable, unified, independent Syria, under post-Assad leadership, is functioning as a state.

Third, Iranian influence in Syria is diminished, their dreams of a northern arch are denied, and Syria’s neighbors are secure from all threats emanating from Syria.

Fourth, conditions are created so that the refugees and IDPs can begin to safely and voluntarily return to Syria.

And fifth, Syria is free of weapons of mass destruction."

To clarify ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain in a foreign country with no legal basis.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will decide if and when all terrorists are cleansed from Syria.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain until the elected leader of Syria is ejected from office.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain until they decide Syria is functioning as a country.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain until they decide appropriate conditions are created in Syria for the return of Syrian citizens.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain until they decide Syria is free from WMD.

Without any conversations within the UN or with the elected leader of Syria.

ameristani military, along with some partners, will remain until they decide Iran ceases to have influence in Syria.

I went to the @StateDept yesterday and asked about the contradiction of the US building a mostly-Kurdish Border Force on the Syrian border even as its NATO ally Turkey threatens to "strangle" it "before it's even born."

I'm not sure Turkey is such a big ally any more. It was bombing the Kurds while they were trying to fight Islamic State.

Further to post #3032 it appears ameristan's position on the new Syrian problem has been walked back again.

An unamed "official" apparently "mispoke". In English, lied.

Good job nobody was injured by the missile/bomb/IED explosion/sniper shots/throat slitting.

Merkins got a bit busy with North Korea. Fear not though, they have released a news sheet saying they are building another 30,000 strong ISIS force now.

If the US were to arrange the murder of Assad as they arranged the murder of Saddam and Gaddafi Syria would disintegrate into a state worse than Libya with all the various rebel factions fighting for control, the Kurds would also be in for their chop. The US would (democratically of course) install a puppet Govt that would have little control over anything and would be a target for all the other factions.

The result more destruction, refugees and more weapons needed for the (US) recognised Govt.

^...meanwhile the Russians, the Turks, the Saudis, the Israelis and the Iranians would become bystanders, watching US machinations with increasing anxiety, but, of course, taking no action to worsen the situation...
