Should I buy camera in North America or BKK?

Hi,

Im planning on buying the new lumix (ZS3 or TZ7 as its called in europe) with an underwater case. Several people have mentioned to me that buying electronic in SE asia would probably be cheaper... Is this true? Should i wait to buy one in BKK or Hong Kong, as opposed to buying one here (in north america)? I dont think warranty is a concern for me since im moving to phuket and will not be able to return the camera back to north america anyways if i end up buying it here.

Maybe HK but everything is imported here too and you will pay for that damn sure, I bought my new digital online from the states as it was about half of the price here and at that time we were getting over 40 baht = $1
But that was sometime ago but they have also raised the ATM fee to 150 baht per use for foreign cards and have made it more costly and difficult to obtain visa extensions so you figure if they even want us here, it seems not.

Do Not buy from BKK. I recently was ask to see if it was cheaper to buy a good digital camera from Thailand for a friend back home. After a day spent researching the best prices in BKK, we concluded BKK more expensive.

buy it in America, a close 2nd is HK, BKK is expensive.

Seeing as everything is cheap in the US, you should buy it there.

Definitely, the US is cheaper. Gone are the days of buying a $500 camera for $150 in Tokyo or anywhere else.
