U.S. DEA Agents in Nong Khai

Just been chatting with a mate who works near the Friendship bridge in Nong Khai , and for the 2nd time this week , there are 2 DEA agents from the States making random searches on vehicles entering Thailand from Laos .
Not undercover , they're wearing Batman -style utility belts & the obligatory federal agent shades .
I could understand if it was the mexico - US border , but Laos-Thailand wtf?

where there are 2, one can rest be assured that there are others. signature of drugs being captured in the US these days may from SEA or possibly the travel route of the drugs getting into the US has been ID'd at this location and the DEA is keeping the natives on their toes. looking to cut off the flow closer to source.

Well considering that the biggest drug traffickers of all in Afghanistan are actually on their payroll, I guess they can spare a few goons being sent here.

Just ridiculous, this 'war on drugs'. And did I mention, hypocritical?

They're only interested in large multi national drug ring busts and intelligence gatherence, don't think two of them in Nong Khai wearing uniform were doing much - but the OP cleary is a rumour heard in the bar

Incidentally, this 'operation' is known about all along the Mekhong.
Even the noble weed procurers are taking a well earned break.

Sorry but you are wrong - I've observed them over the last week. They got two Lao girls earlier this week with 2000 yaba. They're stopping the Thai-Lao International buses and letting a black lab have a good sniff at the bags under and then inside the bus.

Doing what they are paid for anyway- carnt knock the blokes themselves.
Much better posting than ghan, for sure. The mekhong is a pretty porous border of course, but I wasn't aware that all that much of the contraband coming across (plenty of that) was on the pill side of things.

Sure is. Any major drug smuggler with half a brain isn't going to bring the drugs in over a bridge. Will be on the thousands of boats crossing every night.

Employing an outside agency to assist with Thailand's border drug problem is a sensible move given that the government are unable to trust their own in situations where large sums of cash are likely to be offered to ensure that officials turn a blind eye.

A deterent and an occupation for life unless laws are altered (which i doubt)

    Cool A must read...Big Fun

This link is a must read for anyone trying to understand the DEA's mission. They swabbed the net, but the gems are still there. Just like one of the old breed like Ted, at a certain Patpong bar, so many years ago.
Just Google (ruby-sapphire Ted) and you are there. Enjoy.
