Thread: Harley Davidson Khon Kaen

It looks as on though HD are opening a dealership store in Khon Kaen.

It's located opposite Big C on the Mitthaphap Road.

They were still fitting out when I saw it a couple of days ago, pretty impressive signage out front, should be a nice place for gays to meet up and discuss all things Harley

I'll post some photo's soon, I should be passing there again in a couple of days.

Last road bike i had was a Honda Blackbird, currently focussing on motocross on a kx250 which is just a little bit safer.

That's not a real bike. The power output is used for propelling the bike rather than making a loud noise!

It was mentioned on another thread... but, these just seem so much nicer in every way:

They had personality, like British bikes and Italian bikes of not long ago (i.e. they kept breaking down, but were an interesting alternative to Jap stuff...). Can you love an R1? Maybe, but a Triumph Speed Tripple is real love...

R1s haven't been 'lovable' since they changed the market with their debut in 1998- I loved my Hayabusa in 2000...

Quirkiness and poor reliability don't make a bike lovable, imho- give me something that starts every time, doesn't need maintenance every 5K miles, and does the job it was intended for (and that sure wasn't Buell).

What a waste of money Harley's are in this country. Still, it's the punters money.

But where's the romance??? Your relationship seems to be based on a quick bang!

I don't know bikes too well, I've only had a couple (Japanese...), but Jap cars are boring; my crappy old Lotus or Fiat, which both broke down the whole time and were never likely to start in the mornings, were far more loveable than any Jap cars I've owned.

I've used your argument with firends: that Jap bikes are just BETTER, but... where's the romance?

Theres a short, fat Chinese bloke- obviously with a bit of dosh- who I sometimes see in Ubon when I'm there on an infrequent night out. I get the idea he's out on the town most nights. Anyhow, he always seems to have a nice young boy on the back.

Quite the virile young gladiator.

There is NOTHING romantic about sitting around on the side of the road dicking with a broken-down bike.

I look at bikes from a performance aspect- I'd like them to be pretty (which my Busa was not), but they are tools to achieve a goal- to go fast around a corner, to flatten my eyeballs with massive acceleration, etc...

If you consider a 200kg bike with 150+hp at the wheel boring (my Busa was 230kg and 175hp when I got done modding it- it would gear out at 194mph and run the 1/4 mile in 9.8s- new 1000cc Japanese sportbikes are limited to 186mph but they're much lighter and accelerate as fast or faster and handle way better), I don't know what you could possibly consider 'exciting'.

There may be some element of truth in what you say; particularly as it tends to be late, raining and cold every time you break down...

Again, it's hard to disagree, but I'd still rather have a Speed Tripple (even the older brake down versions; do the modern versions still break down - being a Triumph, they must mustn't they?).

^ I bought a Triumph Triple in 1999, the Trident which was a Speed Triple in a less-sporty style, faultless in the time I owned it, sold for a new 2005 Speed Four which I still own - stored with a friend in NZ. Again, apart from standard maintenance, tyres etc never a problem.
The only non-standard expense on the S4 I have had was replacing the magnet thingees (too technical) inside the front hub that are sensors for the speedo. Cause - too many heavy landings from wheelies, only myself to blame. The S4 since replaced by the Street Triple 675 which has won a few Bike of the Year awards.

sorry I don't fit your stereotype; 6'3, plenty of hair, and bought my first HD a few months before my 30th. Or would that be my 10th, then? Another one a few years later before switching to Triumphs.
But have encountered plenty like you mention - so often saw used HDs in the dealers for sale, 2yrs old with 4000km on the clock, looking like they'd never been ridden in the rain (quite likely) sometimes with the extras of expensive genuine HD riding gear, like dress-up time for kids in some cases.

The Harley Shop is within walking distance (South) from the Namuang Waterfalls on Koh Samui Island. The telephone number can be seen in the picture.
