    SRT light red line

Any idea why this new line opened and stopped? It would have saved me about 2 hours per day!!

The Light Red Line is part of the planned Red Line suburban railway system to serve the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. It will run east–west from Sala Ya in Phutthamonthon District of Nakhon Pathom Province to Hua Mak Railway Station in Bangkok.

The segment from Taling Chan to Bang Son (15 km) opened for limited, free trial service on December 5, 2012. Only 12 services a day (6 each way) operated on the line until all services were fully suspended on 13 January 2014 pending further notice.
I've looked but can't see any new tracks at Taling Chan Junction. Fancy new station but deserted with lots of closed off escalators.

Was on that tollway a few days ago. The fokers have barely dug the foundations on that Bang Sue terminal.

Drive up along Viphawadee and it looks like the elevated rail tracks are nearly finished. Are they going finish all the tracks first then bung all the workers down to build the terminal or wot.

There are two older threads on this and I've already posted many construction pics (taken by myself) and info on the line, so I'm fucked if I'm doing it again on this thread.

A link would help. 20+ platforms apparently. Google maps satellite view shows a load of construction going on just north of Mo Chit bus terminal.

Hualampong will become a museum and all the poor sods who get stopped by level crossings between it and Bang Sue will suffer no more once it opens. It makes sense, there really is no point trains running down to Chinatown from the north of the city now the MRT has replaced it.

Probably because the cabinet hasn't signed off its construction yet.

Bang Sue Central Station (Thai: สถานีกลางบางซื่อ Sa-thanee Klang Bang Sue) or Bang Sue Grand Station is to be the new railway hub of Thailand, located in Chatuchak, Bangkok. It is to replace the currently in use Bangkok Railway Station at Hua Lamphong as the terminus for all long-distance rail services from Bangkok.

The station will be submitted for Cabinet approval in 2017 and construction should begin in 2018. The station will replace the existing Bang Sue Junction Railway Station and incorporate Bang Sue MRT Station.
It's good to see good planning ahead hence that long tunnel at Bang Sue MRT station. Pity about the 5 minute bus ride required to then get to the MRT purple line.

It's a pain in the arse, but typical of such incompetence. the cute kid spotted me and my camera

Their infrastructural policy planning is a marvellous and entertaining insight into their national psyche and is a superb metaphor for their country. As an example of what an oxymoron means, it simply cannot be bettered - Thai planning.

I tried it last week. Travelled out to Central Westgate (built for eventual Burmese shoppers) at the end of the line. Air is quite fresh out there unlike in Bangkok. I was the only person on the train for the first three stops at 11am.

I took the line as far as Nonthaburi civic centre, by which time I was dying of boredom. The scenery hardly blows the mind.

I got more pics but can't be arsed to post 'em

The river crossing is the most scenic part. Very pleasant. I'll try to upload a pic.

No window darkening on the trains was quite a surprise considering how dark they are on the BTS. Different company.

Ok here's a few of mine, Tao Poon terminus looking upwards from street level just after the crappy shuttle bus dumps you here. Signposts from the bus stop to here are rather vague, too.

    Ticket office

    Nonthaburi Civic centre station

These will be the platforms for the blue line that will emerge from tunnels from Bang Sue and eventually connect to Tao Poom station here. I had to put my camera through a hole in the fence to take these

^ Nice platform flooding. Yeah the station is a bit complex with some of it shut off, a bit like Bangwa.

Is the plan for the subway trains from Hualampong to continue onto the purple skytrain line or will a line change be required?

The Blue line will continue west as part of the extensions.

    All the info is here.

    Current extension under construction

Bang Wa MRT Station in June 2016 (under construction)

Viaduct across Ratchaphruek Road east of Bang Wa Station in June 2016 (under construction)

The 27 km Blue Line extension will form a quasi circle line (loop). It consists of 19 stations (4 underground stations and 15 elevated stations). (The current terminus at Bang Sue is being extended 1.2 km to Tao Poon as part of the Purple Line project).
From Tao Poon the line will run elevated west along Pracha Rat Sai 2 rd, cross the Chao Praya river and then run south along the Ratchadapisek inner ring road (Charan Sanit Wong rd) terminating at Tha Phra. From the current Hualomphong terminus the line runs 5.4 km underground through Chinatown, under the Chao Praya river to Tha Phra station where it surfaces. It then runs west along Phetkasem road to Lak Song.
The project is divided into 5 contracts:
    • Contract 1: 2.8 km underground from Hua Lamphong to Sanam Chai
(2 stations, Bt11.65 Billion, contractor ITD).
    • Contract 2: 2.6 km underground Sanam chai-Tha Phra
(2 stations, for Bt10.82B, contractor CK)
    • Contract 3: 11 km elevated from Tao Poon along Charan Sunit Wong rd (Inner Ring rd) to Tha Phra
    (8 stations, Bt11.40B, contractor SH-Unique Joint venture)
    • Contract 4: 10.5 km elevated from Tha Phra along Phetkasem rd to Lak Song
(7 stations, plus a park-and-ride venue and maintenance yard, Bt13.43B, contractor STEC)
    • Contract 5: rolling stock and systems, Bt5.17 Billion, contractor CK.
As of July 2014 civil works progress was 52% done.[4] By October, civil works were 63.75% done.

    Future extension

For a few years there has been requests from residents to further extend the line from the future terminus at Lak Song further west to Phutthamonthon area and the MRTA has indicated a willingness to undertake this extension. In July 2014, the MRTA submitted a request for 84 million baht to complete a route survey for an 8 km extension from Lak Song to Phutthamonthon Sai 4.[5]

Some subway stations are already built in Thonburi, I saw it yesterday at Itsaraphap road.

New posh station near the grand palace.

All these lines should have been finished years ago. There's politics for you.

I live quite near a railway line. Why do the bastards have to sound their 1 million decibal airhorn at 5:30am?

The line going up to Rangsit is going to be fantastic for people living up that way. A decent way into the city for the first time ever.
