BLD, it was explained to me (many years ago) that the Ural is a Russian BMW knock off which they lifted from Germany at the end of the second world war.
Not sure if they changed anything on it since, doesn't look like it.

Thanks for that link richard, the one i saw in LP looked to be an older model for sure, they werent interested in selling it, i need something thats already in Laos as importing anything to Laos is now quite hard and expensive, would of loved to get my hands on those 2 beezers as well

there were a few triumphs when i was up in Vient in July outside the grocery store near the circle owned by a brit guy

^ thats the french geezer that rents motorbikes out, called jules classic rental or something like that , he has a few oldies but the triumphs actually a kawaski tricked out to look triumph, he will tell you that himself, looks good though. Hard to find the old pommy bikes in Laos thats why i was surprised to see the 2 beezers in luangprabang, the bloke found em in vietnam i was told

Luang Prabang is a very nice place. Last time I went (June 2012) half the city looked closed though...
