KingWilly begins holy month of Ramadan along with the rest of Indonesia

Kingwilly begins holy month of Ramadan

righto, had to get up at 4.00am this morning, eat and drink as much as I could since I'm going to fast today. No eating, drinking, even water, smoking or sex during 'daylight' hours.

We are supposed to stop by 4.22 but since the girlfriend is lazy to get out of bed quickly she said we have 10 minutes grace - so 4.32 was the cut off. So we ate some fried eggs, toast, juice, iced coffee, mango and guava fruit.

I've already told her that I'm still gonna smoke.

We have a day off since today is the first day of fasting and apparently most muslim indonesians (at least the ones living in Jakarata) go back to sleep for the day....

G/f has already died on the sofa.... apparently old episodes of Home and Away were not interesting enough to hold her attention.

*Oh and Macha, and anyone else, I am not doing this for a laugh or disrespect, I really want to try it out (one day a week) in order to better understand what its like for everyone else.

Go ahead and do it as long as you don't want others to feel sorry for you.

I assume you are not a Muslim, so why follow their religion. I will tell you whats its like, you feel hungry and tired but one day a week will not make you understand, unless you want to diet or have a miserable few weeks.

Live life as you want too, not as others want you too.

I did Ramadan for the entire duration out of a sense of respect for my Muslim wife and also interest when i was in Turkey.
found it extremely easy except for the not smoking till dark part.

I rarely eat until the evening anyway.

It's a good experience, doing things others do for a spell. Helps understanding of why folks are different and brings more camraderie. Good on ya, KW, you three timer. I think you have to abstain from sex for the full time tho, don't you? Prepare us so we know to tiptoe around you.

    actually, that's a good point.
when i observed, Ramadan fell somewhere in the Turkish winter.
nightfall was around 5.30 pm and it wasn't hot enough to feel parched.

rarely could be arsed to wake up when the drummer came round pre daybreak.

you are supposed to gorge yourself at that point.
i went the stay in bed, conserve energy route.

but i supposed to be footy training tonight.... hmmm. game vs singapore in 4 weeks times - i dont want SBF to see me play shite....

i often dont eat at all, but its a funny mind set thing, once i had to lose some weight (about 3 or 4 kilo) for a weigh in at a fight.

hardest bladdy thing i ever tried to do!

In my experience, you party all night and crash during the day. It's more of a party experience than a religous experience. Business comes to a halt.

Eat, drink, and party all night is it. That's what many people do in the USA and then sleep all day. I'll pass on the word's they use to describe it.

If you're doing it to help your wife go through it then good for you.

Before I was married I lived with this Malay woman in Singapore . . . a total stunner who didn't fast at all, basically saying that she shows her devotion to her religion in other ways and detests the way Islam has become more and more a matter of 'show'. . . kind of like the people here wearing those huge Buddha amulets, or multiples thereof.

The worst thing about Ramadan is the testiness and bad breath of those that fast.

well i tell ya - i did it yesterday, not as easy as i thought it would be.

wasnt so much that i was hungry, more missed some of the days rituals, like making/drinking cups of coffee and more importantly complete lack of energy and unable to do anythign about it.

mid afternoon i just couldnt do anything at all, slightly fuzzy head, felt like i had 3 brain cells or summthing.

but breaking the fast was good. you have to start slowly.

some drink something sweet to eat - we visited local mall - had some donuts and iced coffees.

then an hour later ate dinner - mmm yummy.

now, i'm back to normal today - but the missus had to get up again at 4.00am today eat so i joined her, but i only gonna fast one day a week - i need to be productive at work!

but i guess i'll be a little more sympathetic to the indo staff now....
