Thanks for that with two adults and two kids it would be 40,000 rupes. So I would rather pay a bit more to get away from Kuta. Hell I can only get 8 nights so I am going to enjoy and let the family enjoy. I am paying 60 in Legian, and just over 50 for a great place up in Ubud.

Did my first trip to Bali in '76. The esplanade at Kuta was a goat track back then.

Pretty much right on the mark there.

But you forgot Seminyak, imo that's the best place for any of the three.

    Looking for accommodation now.

Thinking about this villa. It costs about the same as booking 2 hotel rooms. Looks nice but no idea where it is. Any ideas on the area? Near Oberoi hotel or something.

Not much point to answer since you are ignoring my advice now...

But apparently it is nearby Ku de Ta restaurant on the Sunset Beach. This area is seminyak, imo the best place in Bali.

that's pretty much market price for those sort of villas in Bali. Plenty around.

The taxi's generally do not know where each villa is, so telling him near Ku de Tai or Oberon Hotel will help.

Nope those villas will be 250 us per night and up. In ubud you can get a gated villa for about 140 at the Tegal Sari, or a family room for about 85.

I've been thinking of going to Indonesia for quite sometime now, how does everything (hotels, beaches, tuktuk mafia) price/quality wise compare to lets say Phuket / Samui ?

Good stuff, unfortunately the cheap airlines that used to fly out of here (Mandala) ceased operations earlier this month, which is probably a good thing.

Air Macau is charging around 1500 USD to fly to Jakarta, guess I'll have to take Air Asia to KL or Bangkok and then on to Jakarta.

Australian woman attacked in Bali: report

Australian woman attacked in Bali: report
    January 31, 2011 - 4:30PM

Police in Bali have been given orders to shoot criminals on sight after a string of attacks on foreigners, including one on an Australian woman who was bound and gagged when robbed in her hotel.

Christine Cheril, 57, was reportedly held hostage as a group of men searched her villa, escaping with RP 180 million ($20,000) of valuables last week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that an Australian woman was attacked in Bali last Tuesday. She has since returned to Australia.

"A 57-year-old Australian woman was robbed in Bali on Tuesday and Indonesian Police are investigating the matter," a DFAT spokesperson said today.

"Consular officers were advised of the robbery after the woman had returned to Australia and are in touch with her family."

The ordeal reportedly occurred at the Villa Mangga in Mengwi, Badung, where the Australian tourist was staying.

It is one of string of attacks in recent months, including one in which a person was killed, that have authorities and tourism operators worried about Bali's image as a holiday destination.

The attacks have prompted Bali's increasingly concerned police chief, Inspector General Hadiatmoko, to give orders for officers to shoot criminals on sight.

"The police have to act firmly and, if necessary, shoot on sight if perpetrators try to escape arrest," he told the Jakarta Globe newspaper.

Inspector General Hadiatmoko gave the order after American national Philip Mimbimi was stabbed in the leg as he fought off intruders during a home invasion in North Kuta, also in the Badung area, yesterday.

The 35-year-old is recovering in hospital.

Police said the intruders had been arrested.

The attack comes after the wife of a retired British pilot was found dead in her North Kuta home on January 19. Police believe Lusiana Burgess, 46, was also the victim of robbery.

Thousands of Australian tourists visit Bali each year.

Inspector General Hadiatmoko also warned tourists to avoid using so-called illegal villas, saying many had inadequate security.

There are hundreds of such places, which are generally much cheaper than the more secure alternatives.

millions of people would every year would disagree with you. But 2 years ago it was a heck of a lot easier than Swampy. Sure it needs upgrading and its being done. But I have never encountered an hour plus long queue to check in or waited over an hour for my baggage.

Time spent getting out of Ngurah Rai can depend on how many flights are landing at a aprticular time combined with the dash to stump up 25 bucks for the VOA then queing up to go through Imigrasi if only one flight reasonably quick if they have all desks manned but if about 3 or 4 planeloads can take ages then you have to run the gauntlet of the baggage porters trying to grab your bags ! main reason I only take a sports bag with the essentials anything else i can buy cheap enough once in town then head out grab a bit of money from the money changers and ignore taxi touts and such like a five minute stroll off the airport and flag down a vacant bluebird Taksi meter on aircon cranked up and off to hotel ! quickest time from plane to airport exit 10 minutes max longest was probably about 2 hrs ! but hey your on holiday chill and enjoy .
