Thread: Cancer sucks

I have read many books - about many things. Always looking for the "answer".
I have a friend - wife with terminal cancer. HE is fighting, fighting, fighting.
My suggestion - MYOB! Let the lady - "RIP" (if that is what she wants). If it is not, provide her with everything available.
I could go to Maya - USA. Why no? I have had enough. Let me RIP.

We all sympathize with you. There but for the grace of God go I.

In defense of the other posters, they are just trying to help. Possibly you believe their efforts are misguided and/or possibly of no value, well, they are responding, as opposed to ignoring.

I can’t speak for all, but, your situation hits home in that it reminds us of just how “weak” and ineffectual we are. Whenever we are presented with a problem we hope, no, we expect to be able to fix it. Well, we can’t fix your problem. So, if you feel the posts are ineffectual, offensive, or of no use, then give them the attention they deserve and ignore them.

Anyway, off my soap box, please do not take offense at anything I have said. We all do sympathize with your situation and are thankful we are not in your shoes.

Realize, we all are on your team.

Earlier you felt like talking, I’ll listen, vent to your hearts content, my friend.

bowie - you certainly have AA knowledge/awareness.
I did not even realize that other posters were offensive - whatever.
Our "place" in life - "spicks & specks". The BGs - omitted them from my "like list". Yes, they were Poms- forgiven. But came to Queensland, Oz as young boys. One died at an early age. Barry, Robin & ??? (dead) (the younger 2 were twins).
Hey, you guys - say anything - except nothing! I am an avid follower of this thread.

Sorry to hear that, koojo. Hopefully it is contained.

Did she find this out in a regular check-up or was she having symptoms? Just curious.

Today, hospital again - pain - too much.
Administration of local anaesthetic - followed by injection just below the left eye. Procedure is quite painful. Ingredient - phenol ??? phenyl ???
    Total procedure - 30min.
The medical fraternity here in LOS - very gentle, very kind - doctor & nurses. People of LOS - similar from my experience - a protected environment in Nth Thailand cf BKK, Pattaya? $$$ - of course, we ALL want more.
Am I happy today? Not really.
I wanted to be in two places at once - hospital & group conscience @ AA. At the meeting I attend, there are a couple of members who "test" me. They love to talk - too bloody much - sharing experience, strength & hope - 99% experience - other - what are you talking about?
Read some of the article - #413 - difficult to concentrate & interest?
Whilst lying on the operating table, I think! Dangerous occupation for me? I think - God - why are you doing this to me? Australian "family" - note "" - arseholes! My Thai family - TOO GOOD!
    From here - my secret!
Finally, coming home from the hospital, a song on a CD. "Cocaine" - which band/singer?
Difference - marijuana, yabba, ganja. Now, cocaine v marijuana?
    That's all folks!

THIS THREAD IS BECOMING VERY POPULAR! MY IMPACT, I GUESS.

In my previous post - #418, I referred to a painkiller used today - phenol or phenyl. Upon researching the 'net, neither is applicable. I did ask the doctor & even spelt "phenyl" - "yes". Any ideas?

Having symptoms I think (blood in stool). But it's all quite vague at the moment me being so far away.
    She's 80 so I don't hold out much hope.

Quality question! Response - not today BUT it is "one day at a time".
For many, the logic is very simple.
    For me, complex.
    a) I am a sober member of AA - 30+years.
    b) illegality
    c) my wife is VERY much against its usage.

What would you do in my situation? (not that it really matters - my call!)

    Very good question.

My answer would have to be, I don't know. I am very much against mind altering drugs of any kind. However what I would do in your situation or in a situation where it becomes an alternative to suicide because it is no longer tolerable I just don't know and cannot know.

All the best wishes for you and make your own call.

    N-(1-(2-phenylethyl)-4-piperidinyl)-N-phenylpropanamide

also known as Fentanyl. 50-100 times more potent than morphine.

Fentanyl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And "Cocaine" was originally performed by Eric Clapton.

nidhogg - very prompt & very informative.
"Cocaine" - it all comes back ie Eric Clapton. I have several DVDs covering "live shows" - they are all in storage at present. What wonderful days? Talent - a first? Maybe the Mozart et al days?
Fentanyl - I recollect using such patches for "pain control" - I thought it to be just a brand name under morphine. Wow! 50 times stronger than "M". Morphine packed a punch - it is no wonder I was "off the air".
"Takeovers" - yes, a big "call". After much, much deliberation, I have chosen - "NO!" My wife (Thai) did have a strong influence re this. Priorities - I want both!
To all out there - be it cancer, other or just plain living, I wish you well!
Mr Earl - message received - loud & clear. Thanks BUT no thanks.

A: There is no correlation between alcohol and weed.
Smoking weed isn't going to make you want to go out and get drunk.

B: Fuck them telling us what pain killers we can and cannot use.
Apart from which I don't think it's viewed so seriously these days.

    C:Why? (your call).

It really is a VERY good pain killer and it's not going to turn you into a drug crazed fiend looking for harder drugs.
In fact my guess is you're already on Harder drugs the doctor's prescribing.

What would I do? I'd light up, light up light up,
    But then I'm not you.

I've already asked my bro to give some to mum.

Koojo, basically, I agree with your idea.
There is one "important" omission -
"my wife is VERY much against its usage".
On my own, I think that I could/would be swayed - at least practical research. However, this is not the case. I have been told that it is detectable when you use it - smell. Disguise/deceit - not really helpful.
So, in my spare time, I just study & apply Mr Earl's reference. Thank you, Mr Earl.

    .
If anything cannabis reduces ones desire for alcohol. I was visiting a pal in California recently and he gave me some of his medical pot and I drank much less as a result. I don't like smoking much, gives me a cough. I did sleep great though. It is a great pain killer with little to no side effects,( you can't say that about the nasty allopathic poisons the doctors shoot you up with).
Trouble here in Thailand is it's hard to get and I'd never chance buying from someone I didn't know well. I'd sure like to get some.

Only when you smoke a lot, at one time. Same as cigarettes. Except you don't really stink like with them. It's quite a pleasant smell, actually....quite aromatic.

And tell your wife to look at how many older women use it....any really enjoy it.

Well the illegality is the big problem here. The last thing anyone needs is a hassle with the popo.
That and smoking anything with the kind of cancer he's got isn't the best idea, (I just now read back a few pages of this thread)

If hemp oil was available that would be the ticket. One would have to know a grower and contract them to make it.

You have your situation under control. You have done your homework, you (and your family) are the ones who are living with this disease, not only day-by-day, but minute-by-minute.

Please continue to use this forum as a sounding board. It provides a great deal of information, and, at the very least it provides communications, one of the most important avenues needed to retain sanity.

All posters are on your side. Offering anything they can to hopefully help you. Mr. Earl has done more research into one “option” than anybody else I know of. As it isn’t for you, so be it, it isn’t for you, the information was provided with genuine concern.

As far as the ganga question, abide by your wife’s wishes, she is the strongest weapon you have in your arsenal.

As far as the impact of medications on your sobriety, with the big C all bets are off, do what you need to do, period. Thirty years of sobriety – you can and have taken control of your life, I salute you.

Fight and fight hard, maintain your quality of life, we are all on your team.

Latin Dancer - she supports me BUT as a teenager she saw some of her friends "suffer". Other - cancer - she thinks that it may reignite with this stuff. Add my addiction to alcohol (she never saw me drinking). Illegality is not a big bonus. Access - who are you "dealing" with? Doctors are held in high regard in LOS.
    SUMMARY: I understand her feelings.
Nothing is set in concrete - future?
"Allopathic" - Mr Earl - where do you locate these words? I have to access the 'net when reading your prose - thank you, teacher. Mr Earl - my responses - purely banter.
Banter, criticism - even applause - all is welcome (by me). Others - ?
