All that matters is calories in vs. calories out. Everything else - macros, micro-nutrients etc. - comes after that. You can lose weight or gain muscle eating nothing but Mc Fucking Donalds as long as you have your calorie consumption/equation correct: eat below maintenance, lose weight; eat above it, gain weight.
And while I'm at it, no/low carbs?! What the blazing bejesus fuck is that about?? Sure if you want to crash and burn and have no energy then don't eat any carbs. The only time you should manipulate carbs is if you're in the final stages or prep cutting for a bodybuilding or physique competition and I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that applies to precisely nobody on here. So fuck your fuckity-fuck-fuck no/low carbs! A diet that excludes something is by definition not a balanced diet!

I've been doing IF for 3-4+ weeks and it is very interesting in what it does to the mind and body.
I am going beyond 18:6 most days, often having my first meal of the day after 4 pm and sometimes after 5 pm. I get up around 6-7 AM daily now (new job).
I do NOT feel hungry at all. Not at all, 95% of the time.
I go for a walk for an hour to hour and half. Heart rate is kept below 130 per minute.
Around 3ish pm I go to the gym and lift weights.
No hunger, no lack of energy.
After I finish in the gym I eat my first meal of the day, the post work out meal.
During my IF during the day I drink:
Apple Cider Vinegar: 1-2 tablespoons win 10 oz of water with,
Cream of Tarter. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp (for potassium replenishment with,
1/4 tsb of natural Sea Salt
This replenishes your body and can gives you energy. You need potassium and the sodium from the sea salt.
Also, on rare occasion that I feel hungry Apple Cider Vinegar with quash any hunger immediately.

I am a firm believer in fasting for health. It is the most beneficial thing you can do for your body. Eat less = live longer.
I was 85 kg in NZ - when I started IF, I'm not down to around 72 kg (might be less, haven't checked recently). It's great to be able to wear 30" jeans
like I did in my teens. I always start the day with lemon, ACV and baking soda/water... usually have yogurt with nuts or fruit for lunch - but that's it until dinner (early).
Nothing else has been successful in my last ditch attempt at attaining a six-pack. Gradual calorie restriction might work in ones 20's, but not in our 30's are our metabolism slows down.
We have been led to believe 3 square meals a day is necessary/compulsory, where in fact, it's just a modern concept, has zero to do with our metabolic needs and has just been promoted by the major food corporations for profit.
Our dogmatic adherence to mealtimes is anti-science - and may actually be making us sick.

In an effort to rein in caloric intake, nutritionists began advising people to eat a lighter breakfast—and marketers pounced on the opportunity. In 1897, brothers Will Keith Kellogg and John Harvey Kellogg introduced corn flakes as healthy alternative to heavy breakfasts. (The pair had an ulterior motive: They wanted to spread the gospel of the vegetarian diet because it was part of their Seventh Day Adventist faith.)
Corn flakes took off, and in the years that followed, breakfast became known as a meal for health food. Fruit-grower associations seized the opportunity to market juices, which, the ad campaigns announced, were chock full of a newly discovered thing called vitamins. The makers of breakfast foods warned of the dangers of skipping “the most important meal of the day.”
And breakfast isn’t the only metabolically unimportant meal. In fact, it doesn’t seem to matter much at all how and when you get your calories. In a 2010 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, one group ate three meals a day while another ate six. (Total daily calorie counts were identical.) Researchers found no weight or hormonal differences between the groups. In 2014, University of Warwick researchers found no difference in metabolism between a group of women that ate two meals a day and another group that ate five.
The one thing that might actually improve your metabolism is periodic fasting—that’s right, the very same eating pattern that the early European settlers deemed uncivilized. has shown that periodic fasting may also prevent heart disease.
Biologist Satchidananda Panda of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, meanwhile, observed in a 2012 study that mice consuming all of their calories within an eight-hour window were less likely to develop metabolic diseases like diabetes than those who ate whenever they pleased. A follow-up study last year confirmed the results—though no one has conducted similar studies in humans.
So should you quit meals and fast intermittently instead? You could try it. Christopher Ochner, a weight loss and nutrition expert at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, notes that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution: Some people do well eating all their calories at once; others prefer to split them into snack-size portions.
Instead of obsessing about meal size and frequency, Ochner recommends something simpler: Don’t eat when it’s time for a meal; eat when you feel hungry. That, he says, is a lost art: In industrialized societies, where food is abundant, we eat because of social cues “or just because something smells good.” If we can teach ourselves to pay attention to our own bodies instead of our environment, he says, “that might be the best diet of all.”

despite what lonely angry forum window-lickers like Ant say, there is science (and a bit of economics) behind eating and drinking less... I think drinking less probably has a bigger impact, because aside from the obvious benefits to your liver and skin etc, it reduces the amount of troughing and munching and sitting around you do.
I think in olden days - serfs used to eat dinner as one formal meal in the day, and due to the influx of ponces from the continent in 1066, dinner in the south of England shifted later and later, until they had to invent a thing called "lunch", whilst in the north, dinner stayed where it is, and supper persisted in the evening. Etymologically, it kind of suggests that people in those days of yore ate a big meal in the daytime and a small meal in the evening, and didn't read self-help scrolls or watch ye olde thoutube channels... they probably burnt a few calories in the fields every day, instead of riding sidesaddle gazing into their handmirrors twiddling their moustache hair like so many hipster guardian readers do these days.

I decided - after 2 or 2 1/2 months to "carb up" and eat things like spaghetti carbonara and even a pizza on my first meals that start after 12 noon and my second meal at night, but I'll cut down on carbs and start my first meal past 4 pm starting in 2 days. Tricking the body and the leptin.
