The medical science faculty of Ramathibodi Hospital conducted the first ever successful artificial heart transplant in Thailand.
The artificial heart, known as Heart Mate3, was inserted into the body of a patient who suffered from the final stage of heart failure to replace his failed heart.
The artificial heart was made of titanium and, therefore, there is no problem of body resistance. This is used for patients who are awaiting heart transplants.
Each Heart Mate 3 costs six million baht and can last up to ten years. The only weak point about it is the battery which lasts only 11 hours a day and needs recharging.
