The Huntsman Pub @ The Landmark Hotel

A wee while back I went to the Huntman's to meet up with my old mate MeMock and enjoy a bonza lunch (aparently).

I have spent a few very happy Sunday afternoons taking advantage of their half-price deals (Heneken only 70B a bottle!!), but today it was cola for me as I had rugby training later in the day.

The bar has lots of nice, comfy booths to sit in. Very cosy. The only thing that disappointed was the poor service. I think they were a bit understaffed.

OK, to the important stuff; the food.

The starter is my favourite part of the Sunday buffet here, and I usually pig out on that and end up not having enough room for the main course.

I think I managed to restrain myself to only having two platters. Very difficult though. The little Cornish pasties are lovely - I could eat loads of them.

OK, on to the main course. We wandered back out into the small mall area and had the choice of beef, lamb, pork or chicken as well as some Asian stylee dishes.

Bladdy Aussies get everywhere. They're worse than cockroaches.

I chose the beef and chicken and had various veggies and proper Yorkshire puddings. Yummy.

The chef must've been a coward Frog b'stard though, because the beef was raw and I couldn't be bothered to get them to bung it under the grill, so I made do with chicken.

Just in the interests of being a professional reviewer I forced myself to have some pudding. The sacrifices I make for you lot!

It was bread & butter pudding (with custard AND ice cream of course) and was delish! MeMock had never seen, let alone tried most of the desserts on display, but enjoyed the fayre on offer even if it's a bit different from his usual after dinner treat of witchetty grubs.

    *Burp!*

Bout time you posted this thread!

Was great catching up with Marmers, GoW and Pooly. Great central location, cool and quiet, a little pricey and crap service (that day) still recommended however.

I didn't exactly go for a nice layout on the plate, did I?

It tasted wonderful. Better than fekkin' rice.

Cooked usually. Properly cooked though, not a Frog's idea of cooked.

Landmark used to be my regular friday night earlydoors watering hole, close to the office.
unfortunately the quality of the service and beer plummeted and plummeted
not to mention the flipper band are shocking
i do think the sunday lunch is good value though

Its strange really. The band are actually not that bad, but they ruin a nice Sunday drinking session. Its the same bunch that ruins the footy on a Saturday evening at the Londoner. It must be really demoralising to see most of the customers leave when you start to play.

The bread and butter pudding looks like cake though.

I think Australian bread and butter pudding must be different from the modern English version. Why would you need custard with it? It is custard (albeit baked).

I think the 'bread & butter' pudding was 'spotted dick' actually.

And I would have custard on my bread & butter pudding, as it is more than just baked custard (unless you always have slices of bread in your custard).

Spotted Dick. Yes, that explains it and yes I do have slices of bread in my bread and butter pud, with jam and also with sultanas, but there is still a lot of baked custard. I probably might have stirred custard on it if I were at a buffet, but I would not make two custards at home for one desert, given that I would have stewed some fruit or something to go with it.

Well FMD: don't know how this thread slipped under the radar

Landmark has alsways been one of my regular haunts due to the member card thingie..had it for about 8 years...when it first started it was the bargain of bangkok...350 baht for buffet upstairs..and with the card 2 ate for 1 or 50% discount...over the years the discount has remained the same but the last time i went the buffet was over 1000 baht...so didn't renew this year...

service has always been abissmal in the Huntsman...don't know why they can't get it right...however i do know that many of the girls who work there have ended up with foreign husbands...even though they don't openly 'go' with customers....

sunday brunch is a great concept..and they have roast lamb with mint sauce...which makes it worth going out of your way for...

on the street level they have an excellent bakery with wonderful quiche...*yes Harry real men do eat quiche* and genuine coffee...1000% better than the starbucks shit across the road...and no pickpockets...
