I couldn't have put it better myself. Well put Jojpam. The only way to make money in farming here is to inherit the land ie by the wife. But the returns are still so small that it ain't worth the hassle. Just MO.

Just rent. If you buy land they'll probably build an oil refinery next door

And to be honest I've made money from buying land.

I've also made money from Euca on my land,and if the price is right in the near future,will be cutting them again.

Buying land is a future investment for my kids,if they want to sell it, there welcome to do.

Presently many locals are seriously in the shit with banks,and there are good deals to be had.

To be fair, depends what one might be doing with the land.
Every situation will differ from the next.

Land is an excellent long term investment, it keeps going up up every year.

Land is overpriced in Thailand. A woman near to me has loans that she can't pay and has been trying to sell her land to pay off the debt for a few years now. As her annual debt increases so does the price of the land she's trying to sell. Once word goes around as to the price she's asking all the other numpty land sellers raise their prices accordingly.

Off subject, but money related. Woman friend here wants me to get her a farang. Due to her having a few Rai she wants 4 million in Sin Sot, and 80,000 Baht per month for living. She doesn't care what the farang looks like but there's no negotiation regarding the money. They're all fcuking mad IMO. PM me if yer interested.

It really is quite pathetic how these humans actually try to interpret the world through the prism of their own pitifully narrow little existence mired in stupidity, ignorance and superstition.

I know of a woman who inherited great wealth on the death of her farang husband and then bought all the available rai in her village, single-handedly doubling the price of land. After eight years all cash has gone, no income from sharecroppers since rice is worthless, no other revenue and disposable funds have been drained by worthless relatives. Forty - six years old and back in Soi 4 Nana looking for a new farang. But she's still hanging onto the land.

Nevertheless, there is still a market, particularly among the Krauts, for buying a 20 year old as a chattel for some fat-bellied grunter and so you might enquire of your friend whether or not she has a daughter that could be "phased" into the negotiations.

Most Isaan folk would sell their own kidneys for an advantage.

Pretty good advice Luigi. I am waiting to see where my son will go to University and see about buying one then. It depends a lot on the economy and how the tourist trade goes, but I would prefer to purchase near a university.

Have thought about it,though property in Thailand doesn't increase in value,and I always think that it depends on the location and the neighbours,i see so many developments here quickly get neglected.

Whereas as rick says with land you can make money.

There's a possible deal presently for 1 million baht but its to cheap for the amount of land,which I'm slowly finding details about.

Do you do kid's parties?

I'm looking to buy the land opposite my house. Just 5 rai or thereabouts but the asking price is too high at the moment.

I want it because I want it to remain woodland. Owner won't do anything with it so all is fine for the moment. When her debts get too high and she is forced to sell then I'll name the price.

Up the road someone did as per above and kept asking for more as her debts rose. Finally debtors took it from her and price dropped to sensible price again.

Up until last night,i was under the impression the Thai govt weren't going to help the farmers seems last night Prayuth announced he will be now,PYB announced this morning that all arrears owed to TFB, will be looked into and interest payments maybe accepted.

The best manner in which the government might help is to not intervene.
